Super Bowl 2026 wasn’t just a win for Seahawks fans – movie buffs also enjoyed the show! Beyond the typical game-day favorites like food, the halftime show, and the football action, the trailers for upcoming films were a major highlight. Movie studios invest heavily in these previews to build excitement for their new releases, and even though some big names like Marvel and Warner Bros. didn’t participate this year, there were still plenty of exciting trailers to see.
Several movies shared trailers or short clips during the big game, including Scream 7 and Minions 3. However, it was especially interesting to see so many science fiction films promoted on such a large platform. The promotion began before the game with the final trailer for Project Hail Mary, and even included a brief teaser for Supergirl during the Puppy Bowl, highlighting Krypto the Superdog. Later, a TV spot for Disclosure Day offered a new look at Steven Spielberg’s return to UFO stories after more than 20 years.
2026 Promises To Be A Big Year For Sci-Fi Movies
We got some exciting updates on both Disclosure Day and Project Hail Mary. While Disclosure Day remains largely a mystery, the hints we’ve seen so far are really captivating. For Project Hail Mary, we finally got a better look at the stunning visuals and a strong focus on the alien character, Rocky, who will be voiced by James Ortiz, the lead puppeteer. Beyond those, Pixar also released a new trailer for Hoppers, a Sci-Fi comedy that appears to be both funny and heartwarming. It seems to be inspired by Avatar, but with a lot of fresh, original ideas.
Despite the recent surge in popularity for sci-fi films, The Mandalorian & Grogu‘s Super Bowl ad was a bit of a disappointment. Many fans anticipated new footage, but Lucasfilm unexpectedly aired a humorous take on the classic Budweiser Clydesdale commercials, featuring Din Djarin and Grogu being pulled on a sled by tauntauns with a voiceover by Sam Elliott. While amusing, the ad didn’t generate much anticipation for the film, which really needs a boost in excitement.
Overall, the trailers for Super Bowl 2026 suggest a strong year for science fiction movies. While Project Hail Mary looks particularly promising, we can also look forward to films like Dune: Part Three, Ridley Scott’s The Dog Stars, J.J. Abrams’ The Great Beyond, and a mysterious new movie called Flowervale Street, among others.
