Scooby-Doo live-action TV series finally confirms main cast joining The Handmaid’s Tale favourite

Netflix has rounded out the main cast of its live-action Scooby-Doo series.

The upcoming show, currently without a title, will reveal how the group of detectives first met and solved the initial case that brought them together. It’s a fresh take on their beginnings.

Variety reports that Maxwell Jenkins, known from “Lost in Space,” will play Fred Jones in the upcoming series. Tanner Hagen, who appeared in “The Pitt,” is set to be Norville “Shaggy” Rogers, and Abby Ryder Fortson, from “Ant-Man,” will portray Velma Dinkley.

Joining Mckenna Grace, who was previously announced as Daphne Blake in February, are additional cast members.

Maxwell Jenkins is famous for his role as Will Robinson in the Netflix show Lost in Space. He also played a young Jack Reacher in the Amazon series Reacher, and has been in films such as This Too Shall Pass and Joe Bell.

Hagen has appeared in TV dramas like HBO’s The Pitt and the Paramount+ miniseries Lawmen: Bass Reeves. He’s also been in the films Be Careful What You Say and Most Likely.

I really noticed Shiloh Fortson this year! She was fantastic in the movie version of ‘Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret,’ and I also spotted her in ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp.’

Grace is well-known for playing the young bride, Esther Keyes, in the Hulu series The Handmaid’s Tale. This role earned her an Emmy nomination and, at the time, made her the youngest person ever recognized with a guest acting Emmy nomination.

More recently, the star has appeared in Scream 7 and The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping.

The new TV series follows old friends Shaggy and Daphne during their last summer at camp. They become caught up in a spooky mystery involving a lost Great Dane puppy who might have seen something supernatural happen – a murder.

Along with Velma Fortson, a practical and intelligent local, and Freddy Jenkins, a mysterious and attractive new student, the group begins investigating a case that’s drawing them all into a frightening situation – one that could reveal their hidden secrets.

This new Netflix series will be the first time the Scooby-Doo characters are featured in a live-action television show. While Scooby-Doo has been brought to life in two live-action movies before – the 2002 and 2004 films starring Freddie Prinze Jr., Sarah Michelle Gellar, Linda Cardellini, and Matthew Lillard – this marks a new direction for the franchise.

Over the years, Scooby-Doo has been featured in several animated TV series, starting with the classic Scooby-Doo, Where Are You! and continuing with newer shows like Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated and Velma.

The 2020 animated Scooby-Doo movie, Scoob!, featured Grace as the young voice of Daphne and Amanda Seyfried as the adult version of the character.
