Scott Patterson Says Fans Deserve “Truth” About His Sullivan’s Exit

Scott Patterson has given all that he can give.

The star of Sullivan’s Crossing explained his exit after three seasons of playing Harry “Sully” Sullivan in the romantic drama, stating that fans of both the show and the Robyn Carr novels it’s based on “deserved to know what happened.”

In a recent Instagram post, Patterson explained that disagreements about the show’s direction had become impossible to resolve, leading to their decision to leave. They clarified that the show’s creators were the ones who actually ended the collaboration, not the other way around, despite what’s being suggested.

The 67-year-old actor expressed deep affection for the character he played, saying he truly enjoyed portraying Sully and actively worked to shape his voice and personality. He highlighted the character’s complexity and depth, qualities that book fans already appreciate.

Fans deserved more respect than to believe I would dismiss the show and them, especially as someone who played Luke Danes on Gilmore Girls, Patterson explained. Ultimately, we’re all fans of these characters and stories, and I’ll always stand up for what’s right.

The latest season of Sullivan’s Crossing concluded in June with Patterson departing for Ireland with his partner, Helen Culver (Kate Vernon). He assured his daughter, Maggie Sullivan (Morgan Kohan), that he planned to eventually come back to their family’s campground in Nova Scotia, Canada.

Following comments from Patterson, Roma Roth, the showrunner and executive producer, stated to TopMob News on March 6th that the fourth season, which begins on March 22nd, continues the story the very next day, with Sully still abroad.

Even though the actor isn’t appearing this season, Roth explained that the character is still relevant to the story and could return in future seasons if it fits the direction of the show.

Premiering in 2023, Sullivan’s Crossing stars Chad Michael Murray, Tom Jackson, and Andrea Menard. The show centers around Maggie, a neurosurgeon experiencing burnout, as she returns to her hometown to rebuild her relationship with her father.
