Fans have more exciting news to celebrate! The upcoming reboot of the popular medical comedy has recently announced several new additions to its cast, following a recent production update.
The highly anticipated Scrubs revival is officially happening, and production is moving fast! It’s set to premiere sooner than expected, and the cast is expanding. In addition to the original stars returning, Broadway performer Michael James Scott and comedic icon X Mayo will be joining the show.
After more than fifteen years since it ended, Scrubs is getting a revival! Creator Bill Lawrence has brought back the original cast – including Zach Braff, Donald Faison, and Sarah Chalke – to reprise their iconic roles as JD, Christopher Turk, and Elliot Reid.
Michael James Scott, currently starring as the Genie in Broadway’s Aladdin, is set to play the role of Nurse Francois Dubois. Francois is described as a young, critical, and lively co-nurse who is close friends with Nurse Pippa. Together, these two nurses maintain strict control over their department and prefer to do things their own way.
I’m really excited to hear that X Mayo, who’s been fantastic in shows like American Auto and Abbott Elementary (and was recently in Season 3 of a popular series!), is going to play Nurse Pippa Raymond. Apparently, Pippa is a total pro – a sarcastic, gossipy nurse who runs a really efficient ward, and she’s best friends with Nurse Dubois. It sounds like she’s going to be a really fun character, and I already know X Mayo will nail it!
The upcoming Scrubs revival will feature several familiar faces. Judy Reyes will return as Carla Espinosa, Turk’s wife and a nurse, making a guest appearance. John C. McGinley will be back as Dr. Perry Cox, JD’s witty and often critical mentor, and Robert Maschio and Phill Lewis will reprise their roles as Todd and Hooch.
The new season of Scrubs will feature several new cast members alongside Scott and X Mayo. Joining them are Vanessa Bayer (known from Saturday Night Live), Joel Kim Booster (Fire Island), Ava Bunn (Head Shot), Jacob Dudman (The Stranger), David Gridley (It Takes Three), Layla Mohammadi (Lioness), and Amanda Morrow (The Devil Wears Prada 2).
Scrubs Received an Exciting Update
The revival was announced in late October and will premiere on ABC on February 25th, with episodes available to stream on Hulu the following day. Filming officially began shortly after the announcement.
Zach Braff recently shared that the upcoming reboot will stay true to the spirit of the original series while also feeling modern and relevant. He explained that the writing team includes both fresh, new voices and some of the talented writers from the original show, and he believes this diverse group will be key to successfully updating the series for today’s audiences.
Faison believes the show’s central story remains compelling. Even after all these seasons, viewers are still invested in the doctors they admire and enjoy following their journeys. The fundamental appeal of the show hasn’t faded, and that’s what keeps people watching.
Scrubs returns on ABC on Feb. 25, 2026.
