The new season of Scrubs has been a success, successfully capturing the charm of the original while also introducing fresh dynamics in the characters‘ relationships. Most of the original cast has returned, but fans have been curious about one absent character. A recent update unfortunately confirms their continued absence, though it also offers a glimmer of hope for a potential return down the line.
The first season of the new Scrubs series brings back most of the original cast, including J.D., Elliot, Turk, and Carla. However, Ken Jenkins, who played Bob Kelso, isn’t appearing this season. When a fan asked creator Bill Lawrence about Kelso’s potential return on X, Lawrence said they’ll try to get him involved if the show gets renewed, adding that they “love him” and hope to feature him in a potential season 2, despite his age. While fans won’t see Kelso this season, there’s still a chance he could return in the future.
The Scrubs Revival Would Be Even Better With Dr. Kelso in Season 2

Dr. Kelso, played by Jenkins, started out as a major source of conflict on the show, using his position as Chief of Medicine to create problems for the main characters. What made his character so interesting was watching him gradually become more relaxed and funny. By the end of season 8, he had become a beloved fan favorite.
At 85, John Jenkins has largely stepped back from acting. However, many fans are hoping he’ll return for a second season, particularly given how much the other doctors’ lives have changed since his departure at the end of season eight. Although he made a brief appearance in season nine, that season has since been altered, so it’s unlikely to be considered a proper continuation of his story.
Wouldn’t it be hilarious if Kelso discovered J.D. was back at Sacred Heart – and now he’s the Chief of Medicine? It would be great to see what Kelso’s been doing since retirement and if he’s become even more laid-back. Plus, with J.D. now in charge, Kelso could offer some funny insights on the new interns.
It’s reassuring that Lawrence is just as eager for another season as the fans are. Now, the decision rests with ABC. Luckily, the show has received positive reviews so far, and if those continue, a second season is likely to be approved.
Scrubs airs on ABC every Wednesday at 8:00 PM.
