SDCC 2024: Tom King Teases “Biggest Wonder Woman Issue in Decades”

SDCC 2024: Tom King Teases "Biggest Wonder Woman Issue in Decades"

As a long-time gamer and comic book fan, I can’t help but get excited about the latest developments coming out of DC Comics, especially when it comes to one of my favorite heroes: Wonder Woman. Having grown up reading her stories, I’ve witnessed her evolution from a powerful Amazonian warrior to a symbol of peace and love in a complex and ever-changing world.

During San Diego Comic-Con, DC has kept a full schedule with updates on projects like Absolute Power, All In, and Absolute, in addition to sneak peeks at upcoming Elseworlds tales. New series and creative teams have been part of the excitement as well. At the Jim Lee and Friends panel, Wonder Woman writer Tom King hinted at something significant for Wonder Woman #14. When we use the term “epic,” we truly mean it – this issue will introduce long-awaited elements to the storyline.

A Can’t-Miss Issue

King and Daniel Sampere have made a significant impact on Wonder Woman since they took over the comic series. So far, there have been many memorable moments. However, what they have planned for Wonder Woman #14 is truly exceptional. At a recent panel, King announced that this issue will be “the most monumental Wonder Woman comic in decades,” even surpassing the scale of Batman #50.

The reason this issue is anticipated to be a significant event is that it introduces Wonder Woman’s daughter Trinity for the first time in main continuity. Not only is this her debut, but the issue also reveals the identity of her father. Thus, it promises to be an essential read.

A Worthy Challenge

In an conversation with ComicBook Nation, King once mentioned that writing Wonder Woman presents unique difficulties due to her conflicting beliefs and objectives. He explained, “The toughest aspect of penning her is that she’s incredibly radical in her advocacy for love, empathy, and tranquility. More so than Superman or Batman, yet she’s also a fighter or soldier. She hails from a society immersed in perpetual conflict that molds you to wage war. Her environment resembles the ruthless landscape of Game of Thrones, and these two opposing sides coexist within her.” He further added, “She yearns for peace but wages wars, and grappling with this complex nature makes her one of the most captivating characters in literature.”

Instead of “When compared to Superman and Batman, Wonder Woman distinguishes herself and forges her unique way,” how about this:
