Sea of Remnants is Getting a Free-to-Play Alpha Test on PC From February 5th to 12th

Joker Studio and NetEase Games have announced a free-to-play alpha test for their upcoming pirate adventure game, Sea of Remnants. Called the Wanderer Alpha Test, it will be available on PC through Steam from February 5th to February 12th. A new trailer showcasing the game has also been released and can be found below.

The upcoming alpha test for Sea of Remnants is free to play, but you’ll need to sign up to participate. To enter, just follow the official Sea of Remnants X (formerly Twitter) account and like, repost, and comment on their recent post. Between January 8th and 22nd, 30 players will be chosen randomly from those who entered. You can also find opportunities to join the alpha test through the game’s Discord server, Steam community page, and subreddit.

The new trailer for the game is nearly 6 minutes long, but it offers a fantastic look at actual gameplay footage. It begins with a foreboding voiceover, then quickly shifts to show the player character enjoying classic pirate life – drinking, gambling, and even chasing chickens! The trailer showcases both on-foot exploration and ship sailing, including fun side activities like time trials and cannon shooting galleries, giving players a feel for what to expect in Sea of Remnants.

The game Sea of Remnants was originally shown in June 2025. While the latest trailer uses upbeat pop music, the initial announcement trailer aimed for a pirate atmosphere with folk-style music. In Sea of Remnants, players control a sailor who has lost their memory and encounters a mysterious girl. They decide to journey together, as they both need to visit the same places, even if their reasons for going are different.

The trailer highlights the diverse gameplay in Sea of Remnants, including challenging platforming sections and complex puzzles. Players will also be able to collect resources and treasures to build and upgrade structures in a base-building component of the game.

The trailer ends with a shift in tone, featuring heavier rock and metal music as it showcases the enemies players will face. These include both corrupted naval forces and gigantic sea creatures, all of which can be battled using the ship’s weapons.

Joker Studio designed Sea of Remnants with a colorful, stylized art style—rather than aiming for realism—to create a world that feels inhabited by puppets. This approach allows the characters to be more expressive and have exaggerated features, similar to those found in cartoons.

Currently, Sea of Remnants is planned to be released sometime in 2026. It’s being created for PC, PlayStation 5, and both iOS and Android devices.
