Rare, the creators behind Sea of Thieves, have announced their first-ever community meeting dedicated to their multiplayer pirate game. The studio plans to use this gathering to share insights about the game’s future, encompassing both immediate and long-term developments. This Community Direct is scheduled for later today at 3pm GMT and can be streamed live using the link provided below.
Gather with our main team for the inaugural Sea of Thieves Community Direct, during which we’ll discuss upcoming seasons, significant modifications to the Insider Program, and a highly anticipated feature that has been under development.” (Studio announcement)
As a gamer, I can’t help but feel the chill from Microsoft’s recent announcement that they’ve let go of over 9,000 employees and shut down several projects in progress by their studios. Sadly, this wave hit Rare, the team behind Everwild, which has now been put on hold. It’s a tough time for gaming enthusiasts like me who were eagerly waiting for new titles from these talented creators.
Given the recent cancellations at Microsoft, it seems plausible that Rare decided to host this Community Direct primarily to reassure Sea of Thieves fans that the future of their game isn’t linked to the cancellation of Everwild.
Initially launched on both PC and Xbox One platforms, “Sea of Thieves” has since expanded its presence, appearing on Xbox Series X/S, and more recently, on PlayStation 5. The PS5 debut of this game sparked a resurgence in popularity, propelling it to become the second best-seller in the US upon its Early Access release on PS5, and even leading the download charts.
