As a huge Batman fan, I’ve been following all the news about The Batman Part II – the little hints Matt Reeves has been dropping and especially the casting choices. There was a rumor going around this week that Sebastian Stan, best known as Winter Soldier from the MCU, might be involved, and honestly, it seemed a little out of left field. But now it’s official! He’s been confirmed to be playing Harvey Dent, which is fantastic news and I can’t wait to see his take on the character.
Rumors circulated that Stan was being considered for a part in The Batman Part II, with fans speculating he might play either Harvey Dent or Thomas Elliot. Now, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed Stan will indeed be joining the cast, portraying Harvey Dent – though it’s currently understood he won’t be appearing as the villainous Two-Face.
What Sebastian Stan’s Casting Means For The Batman Part II

With Stan now cast as Harvey Dent, things are starting to fall into place, especially since we don’t yet know the full story of the next Batman movie. There was already speculation about Scarlett Johansson’s role – many thought she might be The Phantasm or Gilda Gold. However, Stan being cast as Dent makes Gilda Gold a much more probable character for Johansson to play.
This is largely because of the couple’s central part in the famous Batman story, The Long Halloween. That story reveals Gilda as the original Holiday Killer, with Two-Face becoming involved later on. If you were writing a similar story with a key couple, casting actors like Stan and Johansson would be an ideal choice to portray them.
Although it’s still possible Scarlett Johansson might have a different role, the latest news strengthens the idea that she could be playing Gilda. As for how Harvey Dent will become Two-Face, it’s uncertain whether we’ll see the transformation happen throughout the movie, near the end, or even at all. It’s possible we won’t see Dent fully become Two-Face in this film, but a transformation still seems probable.
The Batman Part II is currently scheduled to release in theaters on October 1st, 2027.
