Specifically, his suggestion that playing Bucky was just the “first step” has led some to believe he’s already considering projects beyond his current Marvel commitments.
Some fans are speculating about Sebastian Stan’s future with the MCU because he’s been talking about his role as Bucky in the past tense. He uses phrases like “it was,” instead of “it is,” leading people to wonder if he’s hinting at leaving the franchise.

Right now, this is just speculation, but the Avengers movies have shown us that major characters can die. The Russo Brothers killed off several key figures in their final two films – like Heimdall, Loki, Gamora, Black Widow, and Iron Man – and they even eliminated half of all life temporarily. Considering this history, it would be surprising if Doomsday and Secret Wars didn’t feature some significant character deaths.
However, Bucky has recently joined a new superhero team, The New Avengers. At the end of Thunderbolts, the team was revealed as the New Avengers, and this was confirmed with the cast announcement for Doomsday. This means Stan might not be leaving the superhero scene at all, and could continue as a leader within this new group. We’ll have to wait and see how things develop.
