SEC issues Wells notice to DeFi protocol Uniswap

The SEC, which is the securities regulatory body in the US, has notified Decentralized Exchange Uniswap that it is considering taking enforcement action against them.

On X, previously known as Twitter, Uniswap’sLegal Officer, Marvin Aomori, acknowledged receipt of the regulatory notice on April 10th.

“It’s unfortunate that the SEC issued a subpoena to @Uniswap today, but given past actions, this wasn’t entirely surprising from the Securities and Exchange Commission.”

An SEC Wells notice is a formal communication from the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) team, signaling their intent to propose enforcement actions against a company or individual. This advance notice allows the recipient to present a written response, often referred to as a “Wells submission,” explaining their perspective and reasons why the proposed action should be reconsidered.

The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has previously sent out warnings, indicating possible legal consequences for cryptocurrency platforms Coinbase and Binance.

This is a developing story, and further information will be added as it becomes available.
