Catherine O’Hara spent her final months out of the public eye.
Catherine O’Hara, the celebrated actress famous for her roles in films like Beetlejuice and Home Alone, and the TV series Schitt’s Creek, has passed away at the age of 71, according to TopMob News. Her death follows a recent absence from the 2026 Golden Globes, where she was a nominee for her performance in The Studio.
O’Hara’s last time being seen in public was over four months earlier, at the after-party for the 2025 Emmy Awards on September 14th. She attended to celebrate the show’s impressive 13 wins, a new record.
I spotted the actress at the party, and she looked absolutely radiant! She was with her husband, Bo Welch, and they’re clearly a loving family – they share two sons, Matthew and Luke. She wore this stunning floor-length black peplum gown – so elegant with its high neckline – and finished the look with a matching clutch. She was glowing as she posed for pictures, both on her own and with Bo on the red carpet. It was a beautiful family moment!
I was so thrilled to see Catherine O‘Hara at the event! Earlier that same day, she’d been at the Emmys, and deservedly so – she was nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for her hilarious role as Patty Leigh on The Studio. It was her thirteenth Primetime Emmy nomination, which is incredible! Of course, she’s already won twice before, for her unforgettable work on Schitt’s Creek and SCTV Network, and I was really hoping she’d add another one to her collection.
I was so excited to hear about all the wonderful people involved with the show! It’s truly an honor just knowing they’re part of it. And honestly, I’m thrilled that Ron Howard and Martin Scorsese are finally getting the recognition they deserve because of The Studio – they’ve both worked so hard!
The actress joined her fellow cast and crew members from The Studio on stage to accept the award for Best Comedy Series.

Last week, O’Hara received a lifetime achievement award at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival. Her frequent co-star, Eugene Levy, had the honor of presenting it to her.
She affectionately addressed Eugene as ‘darling’ during her speech on September 7th, sharing that the happiest moments of her career have been when she’s been with him.
