It’s a beautiful 75 degrees and sunny here in Los Angeles as I write this, but I know many other parts of the country are experiencing very different weather. New York City, for instance, is covered in ice and snow, and people are bundling up against the frigid wind. When it’s that cold, anything that brings a little warmth is welcome – and that might even include enjoying a feel-good moment from the cast of Saturday Night Live.
Every week, people camp out in front of 30 Rockefeller Plaza, hoping to get tickets to see a live taping of Saturday Night Live. There’s no guarantee of getting in, and they might wait for hours in the cold for nothing. But for some fans, the chance to meet someone like Kenan Thompson and get a signed copy of his book would make it all worthwhile.

Many people may not know that Kenan Thompson recently released a children’s picture book called Unfunny Bunny. While it’s natural to think of this as self-promotion, I’d rather highlight the fact that he’s connecting with fans who clearly admire him.
Kenan Thompson is now a well-known name in sketch comedy, having dedicated most of his life to the art form. He first gained recognition in 1994 as an original cast member on Nickelodeon’s All That. Just four years after leaving that show in 1999, he joined Saturday Night Live in 2003, starting as a featured player and later becoming a repertory player in 2005.
Over the past 23 years, many comedians have joined and left the show, but he’s remained a constant. He’s even surpassed Darrell Hammond’s previous record of 14 seasons as a cast member (though Hammond still contributes as the show’s announcer since taking over for the legendary Don Pardo in 2014).
Kenan Thompson is always a joy to watch on TV, and you can see him every week on Saturday Night Live, which is currently in its 51st season. The episode airing on January 31st, with Alexander Skarsgård as host and a performance by Cardi B, will be especially noteworthy – it’s the 1000th episode! Make sure to watch it on NBC at 11:30 pm Eastern or 8:30 pm Pacific time.
