Kim Kardashian is breaking the internet yet again.
Kim Kardashian turned heads at the Academy Museum Gala on October 18th with her daring outfit. She wore a sheer, custom-made gown by Maison Margiela, and completed the look with a mask that fully covered her face.
Kim shared that even though her face appeared bare, she was actually wearing a full face of makeup underneath.
Kim Kardashian told Variety she’s a big fan of Margiela. She explained she’d flown in her makeup artist, Mario Dedivanovic, all the way from New York for the event, and admitted it was a bit last-minute, so he probably wasn’t thrilled about the quick turnaround.
Kim explained her plan for the evening’s meal, saying she wouldn’t be eating during the event. She’d already eaten beforehand to ensure she felt good, and mentioned she’d likely reveal her outfit once she was inside.
The SKIMS designer said she immediately noticed the unusual, solid-colored outfit when it appeared on the runway.
Kim explained the outfit reminded her of her own SKIMS line, which is why she was so interested when she saw it on the Margiela couture runway. She immediately thought, ‘This is so SKIMS and perfectly matches my style—I need this!’ She also credited designer Glenn Martens with having the foresight to pair the mask and necklace together.
Kim’s newest masked appearance brings to mind the memorable and controversial outfit she wore to the 2021 Met Gala. She stunned in a completely black, custom-made outfit that covered her head-to-toe, created by designer Demna Gvasalia, who leads the creative direction at Balenciaga.
Kim eventually embraced the striking outfit, but she initially wasn’t thrilled about wearing it.
She initially resisted wearing the mask. As she explained to *Vogue* in 2022, she wondered why she would cover her face. However, the creative team, led by Demna, pointed out that the event was a costume gala, not a traditional glamorous party like those hosted by *Vanity Fair*. They emphasized the importance of adhering to the theme and that the masked look was the intended style.
