Paul Mescal was true to thine own self at Oscars 2026.
The actor from Hamnet was visibly moved when his colleague, Jessie Buckley, received the Best Actress award at the ceremony on March 15th, which was hosted by Conan O’Brien. (See photos of all the celebrities on the red carpet here.)
Mikey Madison announced this year’s nominees, including Emma Stone from Bugonia, Kate Hudson from Song Sung Blue, Rose Byrne from If I Had Legs I’d Kick You, and Renate Reinsve from Sentimental Value. Meanwhile, Paul sat nervously behind Jessie, his hands clasped tightly in front of his face.
When his co-star’s name was announced, he excitedly pumped his fists and shouted. He jumped up from his seat next to his girlfriend, Gracie Abrams, and then gave Jessie a warm hug.
And the love goes both ways. After all, Jessie once told Paul, “I could drink you like water.”
The 36-year-old excitedly told Paul, 30, “I love you so much!” after winning at the 2026 Critics Choice Awards in January. She added, “I know many other women feel the same way, but that’s just how it is.”
Jessie said, “You’re incredibly kind and have a huge heart. I really appreciate you helping me feel more connected to my own humanity.”
I was so excited when I heard Olivia Colman talking about Paul Mescal! She’s married to Freddie Sorensen, who works in healthcare, and after all the buzz about her initial praise, she wanted to explain exactly what she meant by those lovely things she said about Paul.
Speaking to reporters after winning an award at the 2026 Golden Globes for her role in the Chloé Zhao period film, she explained that he is crucial to her work as an actress and has broadened her understanding of what’s possible in acting. She described him as someone who helps you connect with your deepest emotions, and once you understand those emotions, they become natural and effortless – like water.
