As a long-time Sega fan, I was surprised to hear they’re taking down one of their big games from stores soon, but thankfully there’s still a chance to buy it! It’s amazing to me that Sega has stuck around for so long, considering all the ups and downs they’ve faced. They’ve given us classics like Sonic and Yakuza, but it’s easy to forget how tough things were for them, especially when they tried to compete with Playstation and Nintendo. Ultimately, they decided to get out of making consoles after the Dreamcast didn’t really take off, which happened right before the first Xbox came out.
Switching to publishing games made by other companies ultimately saved Sega. Recently, Sega has been very successful with its Yakuza/Like a Dragon series, releasing both new games and updated versions of older titles to reach a wider audience. Now, many of these games are at a point where they can be enhanced with a remaster instead of requiring a complete rebuild, like Yakuza 0 Director’s Cut, which initially launched on Nintendo Switch as a limited-time exclusive. It will be available on Xbox, PlayStation, and PC next month, but there’s a slight catch.
Yakuza 0 Will Be Delisted Next Month

The original version of Yakuza 0 is being taken off sale on Xbox, PlayStation, and PC when Yakuza 0 Director’s Cut comes out. This is to avoid confusion for new players. The original version will no longer be available for purchase starting December 8th at 8:30 AM PST. After that, you’ll only be able to play it if you already own it or find a used copy or a working game code. If you already own Yakuza 0, you can continue playing it as usual.
Right now, you can get Yakuza 0 for $19.99. If you’re interested in the newest Yakuza game, upgrading from Yakuza 0 only costs $14.99 – that’s less than buying the new game on its own for $49.99! The new version has improved graphics and features, but it also includes some changes that longtime fans aren’t thrilled with, like added cutscenes. New players likely won’t notice these differences, but dedicated fans might find them unwelcome.
While it’s probably not going to be re-released, there’s always a chance! If you’d like to own the original Yakuza 0, we suggest getting it before December 8th, just in case it becomes harder to find.
