Selena Gomez is learning how to navigate comments on her body.
In a candid confession, the actress who stars in “Only Murders in the Building” shared that she’s been deeply wounded by the criticism regarding her weight that she’s faced throughout her career.
In an interview with Allure on September 9, Selena shared that she has had significant struggles with weight throughout her life, a topic that she finds deeply personal and sensitive.
However, at the age of 33, this individual, who was diagnosed with lupus in 2013 – a condition that can lead to body-wide pain and inflammation – has been coping with her strong responses to negativity using Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). She likened the process to gradually peeling back layers of her experiences and behaviors to gain a deeper understanding of her own emotions.
In simpler terms, Selena mentioned that something her therapist discussed during their session resonated with her. She recalled an instance where someone called her fat, and she was wondering why this particular emotion surfaced now.
As a devoted fan, I’d like to share how the “Hands to Myself” singer explained her insights. She mentioned that her reflections would eventually guide her to a clear realization, something like, “Ah, now it makes sense, that seems to be related to that moment when I was dealing with health issues and put on some weight.
She added, “You just definitely have to be willing to do the work, and that part can be tricky.”
Beyond just her mental attitude, Selena has also experienced significant progress in other aspects as well. Notably, the founder of Rare Beauty is now in remission from lupus, a condition that required a kidney transplant back in 2017.
Although she may not always experience pain flare-ups, it doesn’t rule out the possibility entirely. In her own words, she expressed, “I personally have many dexterity problems, and it can become quite annoying.
“Even just popping open a can can hurt,” she continued. “I know what that feels like.”
Regardless if it’s about her health, work, or private life, Selena – who recently got engaged to Benny Blanco after a year of dating – firmly declared that she will persist in aiming for her personal best.
The former Disney Channel star expressed a desire to continually improve and excel in all aspects of life. He also emphasized the importance of self-discipline as he aims to explore and experience everything life has to offer.
She mentioned, “I’m thrilled when a feeling arises, I can recognize it and participate in it before letting it pass.
