Taylor Swift painted Selena Gomez more than just a dreamscape.
The singer of “Fate of Ophelia” made a special piece of art as a birthday gift for a close friend – the star of Only Murders in the Building. She gave it to her in 2022 when she turned 30.
Selena, 33, revealed on the March 3rd episode of her husband Benny Blanco’s podcast, Friends Keep Secrets, that she painted a lovely picture of a lake at night. She included the moon and even painted their zodiac signs in the stars.
As a little detail that really elevates a gift, Taylor – she’s such a thoughtful friend! – actually hand-stitched a sweet message right onto the canvas of the painting she gave Selena. It said, ‘Here’s to the next 30 years!’ It’s those personal touches that make a gift truly special, don’t you think?
“She did it on an actual cloth,” the actress continued. “She sewed every letter.”
Selena added, “It was the sweetest gift.”
Benny, who married Selena last year with Taylor as a guest, was also incredibly impressed when he first saw the unique creation.
The 37-year-old was incredibly impressed, saying it was one of the most beautiful artworks he’d ever seen. He initially believed it was a painting by Jean-Michel Basquiat, but then added, ‘She’s a more talented artist.’
Taylor isn’t just a painter; she’s also a gifted songwriter. Selena shared that Taylor brilliantly captured the essence of their shared life and memories in the lyrics of her song “Dorothea” from the album Evermore.
Selena Gomez, founder of Rare Beauty, shared that her song ‘Dorothea’ is deeply personal. She explained it reflects formative experiences – relationships, family, love, and even conflict – that she navigated as a teenager, specifically between the ages of 15 and 18, while figuring out who she was.
She continued, “When I listen to it, I’m so impressed by how it’s eloquently put.”
Selena added that there’s an unreleased song “Taylor wrote about us and it was called ‘Family.'”
She remembered the song saying something like, ‘You’re full of big dreams – you want to be famous, I see it in your eyes.’ Then, the other person sings about how this person believes in their seemingly impossible goals, like performing in huge stadiums.
Hearing those songs now brings back a lot of memories for both of us,” Selena shared. “It’s really touching, because when she first wrote them, she said they were simply about our relationship and our experiences together.
