Chris Pérez will love his late wife’s family por siempre.
As someone who’s followed the Selena story for years, it’s truly touching to see the enduring bond within the Quintanilla family. Chris Pérez, Selena’s husband, recently shared how close he remains with them, especially with Suzette Quintanilla. That closeness actually led to a wonderful new project – we’re all excited about the upcoming documentary, Selena y Los Dinos: A Family’s Legacy, which they’re working on together. It’s a beautiful way to honor Selena’s memory and the incredible family that supported her.
“Projects like this really strengthen our connection,” Chris shared with TopMob News in a joint interview with Suzette. “Whether things are already going well or not, collaborating on something like this, even when you’re already close, makes the bond even stronger.”
Their collaboration on a documentary like Selena y Los Dinos—available on Netflix November 17th—is successful because, as he explained, he shares a uniquely close understanding with Suzette, creating a special connection.
Chris and Selena’s families have a long and complex relationship. Chris joined Selena’s band, Selena y Los Dinos—where Suzette also played—in 1988, and he and Selena began dating. They secretly married in 1992, but Selena’s father and manager, Abraham Quintanilla, was upset and temporarily removed Chris from the band.
Although the father eventually approved of Chris as a future son-in-law, they later had another public disagreement. This time, it involved a legal dispute over a TV series Chris planned to create about Selena’s life, which they resolved in 2021.
Despite their disputes though, Suzette agreed that Chris and the family have “always been close.”

We definitely had our ups and downs as a family, but we’ve moved past those disagreements now. I’ll always think of Chris as family, and I know he feels the same way about me, and that’s what really matters.
Suzette added, “At the end of the day, we’re family. We have each other’s back.”
Beyond being a close, lasting family, Suzette and Chris will also continue working together as business partners to preserve Selena’s memory and achievements.
Chris explained that they’re dedicated to protecting his late wife’s legacy and the values she stood for. He said, “Working on projects like this brings us closer together, and we don’t approach it casually.”
