It’s always disappointing when a game release is delayed, particularly so close to the expected launch. There are many reasons why this happens, and developers don’t always explain them. Recently, an upcoming stealth action game has been pushed back from its original 2025 release. The good news is that players now have a firm release date, indicating the developer feels confident about the game’s readiness.
Nacon and Cyanide Studio have announced that Styx: Blades of Greed, the sequel to the popular Styx: Shards of Darkness, will be released on February 19, 2026. The game was previously planned for release sometime in 2025, but will now launch on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC (through Steam and the Epic Games Store). A new trailer and details about the game have also been revealed.
In Styx: Blades of Greed, you play as Styx, a clever and agile goblin thief known for his quick wit and stealth skills. This time, he’s after Quartz, a valuable and potent resource that could tip the scales in a looming war between elves, humans, and orcs. The game improves upon previous titles by focusing on letting players use their creativity, offering flexible stealth options, and encouraging exploration in all directions.
Cyanide Studios says that Blades of Greed builds on what players already love about the series, making significant improvements. Levels are bigger and more complex, with lots of different ways to explore and requiring players to think strategically. The developers promise a better-looking and more engaging Styx experience for both longtime fans and new players. They’ve focused on giving players freedom – you can create tools, find the best paths, use your skills, and forge your own way through dangerous areas.
The core of the game remains focused on stealth, but players now have significantly more options. You’ll be able to create weapons and potions and use a variety of skills to tackle challenges in different ways. Beloved abilities like cloning and invisibility are back, powered by Amber, and Quartz introduces exciting new powers like Mind Control and Time Shift, letting you create even more elaborate plans.
In Cyanide, every situation is a challenge best solved through stealth. Players can choose to quietly eliminate enemies, cleverly use their surroundings, or simply avoid confrontation altogether – the game offers many ways to succeed. Though small, Styx is a powerful character thanks to his quickness, intelligence, and lethal skills.
It’s common for video games to be delayed, even close to their release date. While delays can sometimes indicate problems with the game’s development, they often mean the developers just want to spend more time refining the final product. Occasionally, a release date is announced before the game is truly ready. As fan expectations and corporate pressures increase – as we’ve seen with the highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto VI – delays are likely to continue being a regular occurrence in the gaming world.
