Serena Williams is proving she’s the ultimate protective sibling.
The retired tennis champion, who was no longer playing by 2022, enjoyed watching as her sister Venus Williams teamed up with Leylah Fernandez in the women’s doubles tournament at the 2025 U.S. Open on August 30th. Her response to Venus’ new partner was truly a sight to behold.
On August 31st, a video was shared on TikTok by the person aged 43. In this video, she captured footage of Venus (also 45) and Leylah (22), during their match, followed by pointing the camera at herself, mimicking a playful eye roll. Subsequently, she feigned a smile, while her eyes continuously moved back and forth.
When you notice that Venus Williams found a new doubles partner in Leylah Annie Fernandez, and you’re genuinely thrilled to see her triumphing alongside someone else,” Serena wrote in the caption of the post.
Although Serena often employs humor, it’s worth noting that she – with 14 women’s doubles victories shared with Venus – has consistently demonstrated her support for her sister. In fact, not long ago, she penned a touching tribute to her larger-than-life sibling following Venus’ defeat against Karolína Muchová in the women’s singles tournament.
In a heartfelt Instagram post on August 26th, she expressed her immense pride in you, using words like ‘strength’, ‘courage’, ‘determination’, ‘grace’, ‘resilience’, and ‘inspiration’. She even admitted that these words might not be enough. Moreover, she shared a wish to emulate your qualities.
Similarly, Venus has always had Serena’s back as well.

In an interview with TopMob News last September, she expressed that her sibling has been a source of inspiration for her. She stated that her sibling is the one who truly understands her experiences, even without explicit communication. According to her, her sibling’s presence is like a silent companion who intuitively comprehends her. Despite it being uncommon in sports, she finds comfort and familiarity in having a sibling, saying it’s an experience she can’t fathom lacking.
And Venus noted just how rare that experience is.
“From what I understand, 99 percent of people do it alone,” she went on, “but I never had to.”
