Session: Skate Sim Fans Upset With New Update: “Feels Awful”

Crea-ture Studios, the developer behind Session: Skate Sim, recently rolled out a significant update – the first of three planned changes aimed at enhancing the 2022 skateboarding simulator’s overall experience. While this update did bring about substantial gameplay alterations, it appears to have fallen short in implementing these changes as intended. Consequently, this has sparked debate among fans due to the performance problems that have arisen on all platforms. Some players have even labeled the console version as “unplayable.

In their latest release, known as the Foundation Update for Session: Skate Sim, developers primarily aimed at enhancing gameplay smoothness. Key aspects of this update included better fluidity, camera adjustments, and a revamp of physical animations. However, contrary to expectations, the community’s anticipation was dampened due to more problems arising than being solved. The most significant concern was performance issues on the console version, where the game often ran at 30 fps and dipped below it frequently. Unfortunately, since both performance settings and high-quality graphics options were removed with the update, it became impossible to achieve a smooth 60 fps.

In brief testing since the update, I found that the PC version didn’t fare as well as its console counterparts regarding performance. It showed a noticeable decline.

One user on the Session: Skate Sim subreddit complains that either their settings have been reset and they can’t tell, or everything feels significantly worse now, with the frame rate being incredibly poor on PS5.

Regarding its features, one of the most debated changes in “Session: Skate Sim” is the revamped camera system. Initially, it had a camera angle similar to EA’s “Skate,” but with less movement. However, in the latest update, the camera now dynamically follows the skater, moving accordingly with actions like ollies, lifting up slightly instead of staying close to the ground. While not universally disliked, many players have been searching for settings to adjust the camera back to its original state.

Another user on the Session: Skate Sim subreddit expressed, “The [camera] keeps rising and falling, which gives me a slight headache, but I adore this game immensely and can’t find anything else quite like it.” They added, “I’m really disappointed they made this change. It doesn’t make sense to me why someone would want the camera movement to be so unsteady that it causes your eyes to lose focus. Landing on rails feels awkward now because it’s hard to lock onto them.

It’s good news for Skate Sim players as Crea-ture Studio has rolled out an update today, specifically on June 26th, 2025. This update addresses the frame rate problem that was affecting both console and PC versions of the game. As a result, the gaming experience should be smoother for console users at the very least.

The latest update for the game Session: Skate Sim still shows some peculiar glitches. For instance, during certain grinds like crooked grinds and BS bluntslides, the skater’s arms remain at their sides, giving the skater an unnatural stiffness. However, it appears that Crea-ture Studio is working diligently to fix these issues, as suggested by today’s update. Another update is planned for this summer, with another one following in the fall, so improvements are expected in the coming months.

The “Skate Sim” game can be found on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and personal computers (PC).
