An animated movie from 2023 starring Seth Rogen will soon be removed from Netflix. The film is based on the popular comic book series from Mirage Studios, which has grown into numerous TV shows, movies, video games, and more.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem exits Netflix in April
On April 17, 2026, Netflix will remove the animated film Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem from its streaming service. The movie is a fresh start for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise, based on characters originally created by Peter Laird and Kevin Eastman in 1984 for Mirage Studios.
The story follows four turtle brothers—Leonardo, Raphael, Donatello, and Michelangelo—who were mutated and live hidden in the New York City sewers with Splinter, their rat sensei and adoptive father. As teenagers, they use the skills Splinter taught them to battle criminals, even when he doesn’t approve. They eventually team up with journalist April O’Neil to fight a dangerous criminal organization and other mutated foes.
The movie boasts an all-star voice cast including Seth Rogen, Micah Abbey, Shamon Brown Jr., Nicolas Cantu, Brady Noon, Ayo Edebiri, Giancarlo Esposito, Jackie Chan, Ice Cube, and Paul Rudd, as well as many other talented actors.
Jeff Rowe directed Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, and he wrote the script with Seth Rogen, Brendan O’Brien, and Evan Goldberg. After the recent live-action movies didn’t perform well, the studio decided to restart the series. They initially planned a reboot, but after a suggestion from Playmates, the company that makes the Ninja Turtles toys, they decided to make an animated film instead. Rogen then became a key writer on the project (according to the LA Times).
The film was a huge success, earning rave reviews from both critics and audiences. It currently has a 90% or higher rating on Rotten Tomatoes and has grossed over $181 million worldwide, according to Box Office Mojo.
Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon Movies have announced they’re making a sequel to the animated film, which comes out on August 2, 2023. According to Collider, the villain in the next movie will be Shredder. The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise currently includes not just the films, but also a short film, a TV show, and a video game.
