Seven Deadly Sins Introduces Wildly Controversial Change to Major Character (And Fans Are Furious)

The anime series The Seven Deadly Sins has been incredibly successful, continuing to grow even after the original manga finished. This has been achieved through follow-up series and spin-offs, with Seven Deadly Sins: Four Knights of the Apocalypse being the most prominent. This sequel introduces a new main character, Percival, who tries to prevent a grim prophecy foretelling his and his allies’ role in the world’s destruction. One important character in this new series is Gaiwan, but a recent major change involving him has upset many fans.

The most recent chapter of the manga Seven Deadly Sins: Four Knights of the Apocalypse revealed that the character Gaiwan’s attraction to women is the result of a curse placed upon him by Merlin. Merlin, a well-known wizard from Arthurian legend, apparently cursed Gaiwan as a baby to ensure he would “only be attracted to women,” but has since removed the curse. Merlin explains she did this out of care, wanting to protect Gaiwan from the heartbreak she herself experienced with unrequited love by eliminating any potential attraction to men. This reveal has sparked significant negative reactions from fans.

The manga series “Seven Deadly Sins” recently featured a controversial storyline. A panel from the newest chapter depicts a character being “cured” of a curse that caused her to only be attracted to women, sparking criticism online.

Watching the latest developments with The Seven Deadly Sins and its sequel, Four Knights of the Apocalypse, is… something else. I’m honestly a bit shocked by the direction things have taken. It’s hard to believe Nakaba Suzuki, or the studio, went with this! It’s definitely a surprising turn of events.

The Four Knights Change

I’ve been learning about Gawain, and it’s interesting – she’s the daughter of Merlin and Escanor, a really popular character from The Seven Deadly Sins anime. Just like in the original manga, Gawain has a big part to play in the anime sequel. Being the child of such powerful figures, she’s incredibly strong and embarks on adventures with Percival. However, it seems like her relationship with her mother is going to be complicated, especially considering everything that’s changed.

That shocking scene doesn’t appear likely to be animated in the near future. While Four Knights of the Apocalypse has been popular on Netflix, a third season hasn’t been announced yet. Even if it were, it would take a while to reach the events of Chapter 216 in the story. The original manga has finished, but the author, Nakaba Suzuki, hasn’t suggested the sequel will end soon, implying the manga might continue with further controversial developments for the character Gaiwan. Understandably, this moment has sparked a lot of debate among fans online, making it one of the most discussed parts of the Seven Deadly Sins sequel so far.
