As a huge fan of British crime dramas, I’m really excited about this new Netflix series! It’s called Agatha Christie‘s Seven Dials, and it’s based on one of her classic novels, ‘The Seven Dials Mystery’. What’s particularly cool is that the showrunner is Chris Chibnall – you might know him from shows like ‘Doctor Who’, ‘Torchwood’, and the brilliant ‘Broadchurch’. He’s fantastic at building suspense, so I have high hopes for this adaptation.
This story is different from most Agatha Christie novels because it doesn’t include her famous detectives, Hercule Poirot or Miss Marple. Instead, the mystery is solved by an amateur investigator named Lady Eileen ‘Bundle’ Brent, who is portrayed by Mia McKenna-Bruce.
You can also find these story elements in Christie’s earlier novel, The Secret of Chimneys, published in 1925, four years before The Seven Dials Mystery.
Looking ahead to future collaborations between Chibnall and Netflix, this story could still be revisited as a prequel or reimagined as a sequel. Alternatively, Chibnall could choose to adapt a completely different Agatha Christie novel with a fresh cast of characters, much like Sarah Phelps has successfully done for the BBC.
In a recent exclusive video interview for our series, The TopMob Writers’ Room – where we explore the minds of screenwriters – Chris Chibnall discussed the possibility of more Agatha Christie adaptations on Netflix. He indicated that a prequel is probably not in the works.

He explained that The Secret of Chimneys happens earlier in the timeline than Seven Dials, and the character of Bundle is portrayed differently in the book. Because of this, he doesn’t believe a direct prequel story makes sense.
Honestly, we’re just finishing up the final touches now, and I’m really eager to share it and see how people like it. Our main goal from the beginning was to create something truly enjoyable.
We’re really excited about this project – it’s a special one. We’re aiming for a January 15th release, and that date has been our guiding principle throughout the entire process. I discussed with our director, Chris Sweeney, how we wanted this adaptation to feel. It’s a Christie adaptation for Netflix, and while other versions for US movies or the BBC have been great, we wanted to create something distinctly our own.
What really makes this special is how much fun it is to watch, especially with such a talented British cast. We’re excited to finally share it and see how people react.
