Ben Stiller announced this week that he won’t be directing any episodes for the new season due to a packed schedule with other commitments. He disclosed this information during an interview with The Los Angeles Times and later clarified on social media that he remains engaged as an executive producer. In fact, he has been putting in long hours on pre-production work for quite some time now, and he expressed faith in the new directors taking over the helm.
In an interview with The L.A. Times, Stiller expressed that these matters require patience to materialize, and as you age, you come to understand that your time is limited. Besides Lumon Industries, he’s preoccupied with several upcoming projects such as the new Meet the Parents sequel titled Focker-in-Law, an HBO dramedy named The Band, where he takes on a leading role. Additionally, he plans to direct a World War II film and a documentary about his parents, aptly named Stiller & Meara: Nothing Is Lost.
Stiller, in response to a fan post following the publication of an interview, affirmed his faith in other directors who have worked on “Severance” before, stating they are capable of taking over his role. He expressed, “Absolutely! The last eight months have been all-consuming while working on season 3, and I’m not planning to leave. Our team is exceptional, both in terms of the directors and those who create the show. Directing it is a joy, and I definitely want to take on that role again at some point. I believe that season 3 will surpass all its predecessors as we keep refining it.
The Latest on Severance Season 3
The second season of “Severance” concluded in March, but wasn’t renewed until the finale day, indicating a potential wait for Season 3. As of now, filming hasn’t started and there are no clear indications about its release date. However, given its status as Apple TV+’s most-watched series ever, it seems to be receiving substantial backing from the streaming platform.
Stiller played a significant role in turning “Severance” into a tangible project. Originally, Dan Erickson, the series creator, was stuck in a monotonous office job when he penned the pilot script and sent it to Stiller’s production company, Red Hour Productions. Impressed by what he read, Stiller collaborated with Erickson to bring the concept to fruition, a process that turned out to be the longest development period in Stiller’s career. The end product has garnered widespread acclaim and resonates with people worldwide.
