We haven’t received official word about the exact return date for Season 3 of Severance, but what we do know is that there will be a significant character missing in the new season.
Ben Stiller, a renowned producer and director for an immensely popular Apple TV+ series, will not return to direct the upcoming season.
In a conversation with the Los Angeles Times, Stiller expressed that he currently feels as though he’s saying, ‘Time is running out.’
Instead, the star will feature in the upcoming Meet the Parents sequel titled Focker In-Law, and is set to film a World War II survival drama this spring. The movie narrates a “real-life account of a crashed airman in France during occupation and his connection with the French Resistance.
I’d say it this way: “I found myself reflecting on how patience is crucial for achieving goals. As I grow older, I’ve come to understand that our time is limited, making each moment even more valuable.
In simpler terms, Ben Stiller directed six out of nine episodes in the first season and five out of ten episodes in the second season, including the final episode that left viewers amazed. His decision to step down from directing responsibilities is sure to disappoint many fans.
I’m delighted to share that despite taking a break to direct a feature film, my involvement in the show won’t be diminished. In fact, you might notice my influence in Season 3 quite vividly. The LA Times reports that Ben Stiller, Dan Erickson (the showrunner), and the Severance writers have been meticulously planning Season 3 for a while now, ensuring that I can step away and pursue this film project while still maintaining a strong presence on the show.

After the news broke out, Stiller reassured his fans on Twitter (previously known as X) that he has no plans to leave the show.
“It’s been full time the last 8 months working on season 3 and I’m not going anywhere,” he wrote.
He remarked, ‘Our team includes fantastic directors, who work together to produce the show. I genuinely enjoy directing it and am eager to do so again in the future. I have a strong feeling that season 3 will be the best one yet, as we continue to grow and develop.’
