Sex and the City OG Star Kristin Davis Breaks Silence on the Show’s Finale

This show is widely considered one of the most influential TV series ever made. While the recent continuation didn’t achieve the same level of success or innovation, it became a source of comfort for many viewers, right up to its surprising ending.

The continuation of Sex and the City, titled And Just Like That…, surprised many longtime fans who found the characters, now in their 50s, to be unrecognizable. Despite the criticism, the show proved popular, so the announcement of a third and final season was unexpected for both viewers and the actors. Kristin Davis, an original Sex and the City star, recently spoke with People magazine about whether her character received a satisfying conclusion.

At the Golden Globe Awards’ pre-show event, an interviewer asked Octavia Davis if the recent conclusion of the show’s revival felt satisfying. She responded with a straightforward, “No.”

The new series, And Just Like That…, didn’t include all of the original stars from Sex and the City. Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon, and Kristin Davis all returned to play Carrie Bradshaw, Miranda Hobbes, and Charlotte York Goldenblatt, respectively. Kim Cattrall, who famously played Samantha Jones, did not appear in the revival.

The first series of the show had a lot of off-screen conflict, especially between Kim Cattrall and Sarah Jessica Parker. Cattrall reportedly felt Parker, as a producer, should have shared that credit with the entire cast. When the reboot, And Just Like That…, came back, all three leading ladies received producer credits.

As a long-time fan, the revival definitely threw me for a loop! It really seemed determined to shake things up with our favorite characters. I was completely shocked when Mr. Big, played by Chris Noth, had a heart attack in the very first episode – after all those years of wondering if he and Carrie would finally stay together! And Miranda’s journey was a huge surprise too. Seeing her explore her identity and realize she was a lesbian, then ultimately leave Steve to pursue relationships with women, was a bold move for the show.

Charlotte was the most level-headed of the group. While the others went through big changes, she focused on her everyday life as a wife and mother, returned to work, and coped with a particularly difficult time when Harry faced a health scare.

The show ended abruptly after only a few episodes. It included an additional episode, but the finale left viewers feeling unsatisfied. Taking place during Thanksgiving, the three main characters never had a meaningful conversation to resolve their issues. Charlotte was absent, choosing to spend the holiday with her family following a health scare for Harry. Meanwhile, Charlotte struggled to juggle a new relationship, her son, and the unexpected news that his one-night stand was pregnant.

The episode felt unremarkable, more like a typical installment than a season finale, and even included a surprisingly crude moment.

Sarah Jessica Parker Teased Carrie Comeback

The show finally allowed Carrie to experience happiness on her own, which was a satisfying moment for many viewers. However, after the series ended, Sarah Jessica Parker admitted she wasn’t sure if the ending meant the show was truly over, suggesting it could just be a temporary pause.

Davis explained that she and her partner had initially agreed to a three-year commitment. She thought they’d continue the relationship beyond that point, simply assuming they would, as is her nature.
