Sharna Burgess used to tango with Sasha Farber.
Before appearing on Dancing with the Stars, Sharna and her partner briefly dated. She explained that their connection started during the Burn The Floor tour in 2006, which eventually blossomed into a showmance – a romantic relationship that appears as part of a show.
The 40-year-old shared on the May 11th episode of the Penthouse With Peta podcast that she’s dated a lot of unpleasant people, but this particular person was different. She told fellow professional Peta Murgatroyd, ‘He was not one of them.’
Sharna has been with her fiancé, Brian Austin Green, and they share a 3-year-old son named Zane. They’ve been together for over five years. However, she also remembers her previous relationship with Sasha fondly, describing him as a kind and sweet boyfriend when she was starting her career.
He was just such a wonderful person. Honestly, he came into my life exactly when I needed a good laugh – I’d kind of forgotten how to do that. It was a really chaotic time for me, being in my early twenties, with everything changing all at once.
Sharna remembers working up the nerve to talk to Sasha one night while they were on tour with Burn the Floor in Reno, Nevada – she admits she’d had a little bit to drink at the time.
I remember when I first met Sasha. Our rooms were right next to each other, and one night, I just got brave and walked over to his door. I knocked and simply said, ‘Hi!’ It was a bit impulsive, but I had to introduce myself.
Sharna wasn’t sure how long they’d been together, but she and Sasha dated for most of her six years performing in Burn the Floor. When her father became ill, she left the show to go home and support him, which ultimately led to her split with Sasha.
She finished by saying it was too difficult when she was at home. She never knew when she’d be able to tour again, and her partner, Sash, was already on tour with the band. She wondered if their lives would ever align, and they ultimately ended their relationship during a video call on Skype.
Though their initial romance didn’t last, the two dancers eventually reconnected as professionals on Dancing with the Stars. She’s currently in a relationship with Brian, whom she met while competing on the show. Sasha was married to fellow Dancing with the Stars cast member Emma Slater from 2018 until 2024, and he has recently publicly confirmed his new relationship with Janel Parrish.
Sharna has accepted the breakup and now remembers her short relationship in 2020 with fondness.
In a YouTube video featuring her father, Raymond Eric Burgess, she shared, “Dad loved Sash,” but then added, “We were never meant to be together.”
