Sharon Osbourne Says Why She Didn’t Take Suicide Pact After Ozzy Died

Content warning: This story discusses suicide.

Sharon Osbourne is putting one foot in front of the other.

Nearly five months after the death of her husband, Ozzy Osbourne, who had Parkinson’s disease, 73-year-old Sharon Osbourne has revealed she’s considered taking her own life.

Sharon Osbourne told Piers Morgan on his show Piers Morgan Uncensored that she would have chosen Ozzy, and that she’s accomplished everything she set out to do in life.

She revealed that her children – Aimee, Kelly, and Jack Osbourne, ages 42, 41, and 40 respectively – give her the strength to keep going.

As Sharon put it, “They’ve been unbelievably just magnificent with me, all three of them.”

The former cohost of Talk has been dealing with the loss of the Black Sabbath singer, Ozzy Osbourne. In her 2007 memoir, Survivor: My Story – The Next Chapter, she revealed that she and Ozzy had agreed they would help each other end their lives if either of them developed a severe, debilitating brain illness.

Sharon Osbourne stated in an interview with the Daily Mirror that she and her husband, Ozzy, are fully supportive of euthanasia. They’ve made plans to travel to a Swiss assisted suicide facility should either of them develop a debilitating brain illness like Alzheimer’s, believing they would end their lives at that point.

I was so relieved when she told me they’d talked to the kids. They all sat down at the kitchen table, shared what we were hoping for, and thankfully, everyone was on board with the plan. It just feels good knowing we’re all united in this.

In 2014, Ozzy explained to the publication that the agreement now covered any situation where his life was in danger.

Kelly recently dismissed her mother Sharon’s past claim of a suicide pact with Ozzy as a bid for attention. However, Sharon has her own explanation for retracting that promise.

The America’s Got Talent judge shared that she had a shift in perspective several years ago. This came after a stay in a treatment facility following a difficult emotional struggle, where she connected with two women who impacted her greatly.

She told Piers that there were two girls inside, strangers to each other, both of whom had mothers who had taken their own lives. Seeing how deeply affected these young women were, and the devastation it had caused them, she made a firm decision: she would never put her own children through that kind of pain.

Sharon described how she’s doing after her husband’s passing – after 43 years together – as “just okay.”

You know, I’ve reached a point where grief feels less like an enemy and more like a companion. It’s strange, really. When you truly love someone deeply, the pain of losing them just becomes part of your life’s fabric. It’s something you learn to carry, to integrate into who you are. I believe we all have to find a way to accept that, to move forward, because life, inevitably, keeps going.

Oh my gosh, you won’t BELIEVE this! Before they were the legendary Black Sabbath – my absolute heroes, Ozzy, Geezer, Bill, and Tony (Tommy Iommi, to be exact!) – they actually played together as a band called Earth! It’s so cool to think they had to start somewhere, right? Earth… before the darkness, before the riffs that changed everything! I’ve been digging into their history, and it’s just amazing to trace their journey. It’s like discovering a secret origin story!

Ozzy Osbourne, born John Michael Osbourne in Birmingham, England, in 1948, didn’t enjoy school as a child. He found his drive and success through his love of music.

In a 2010 interview with The Associated Press, he admitted he didn’t get much out of school. He explained that his dyslexia made learning difficult, and he was often teased by a sister for his inability to read, which he found deeply embarrassing.

He explained that discovering The Beatles sparked his love for music, and he doesn’t know where he’d be today without it. He credits music with giving him the opportunity to leave his hometown and pursue a different life.

In 1968, he started the band Black Sabbath with some friends, naming it after a horror film. Their first album was a big hit. He married Thelma Riley in 1971, and they had three children: Jessica Osbourne, Louis Osbourne, and Elliot Kingsley.

During the California Jam music festival, the lead singer of Black Sabbath, wearing sparkling pants decorated with a snake, hugged fans while performing.

Black Sabbath walked the streets of London in style.

The band performed at the iconic Hammersmith Odeon—now named the Eventim Apollo—in London.

Tony, Ozzy, Geezer, and Bill happily displayed their silver record award for the album Technical Ecstasy.

Ozzy Osbourne enjoyed participating in a darkly themed photoshoot. This came after being let go from Black Sabbath the previous year because of his battles with substance abuse.

Ozzy Osbourne admitted in his documentary, Biography: The Nine Lives of Ozzy Osbourne, that he misused money like alcohol and drugs, leading to destructive behavior. He described this period as one of the worst times in his life.

Ozzy Osbourne performed at Madison Square Garden during his Diary of a Madman tour, only two days after the now-famous incident where he bit the head off a bat thrown onstage, mistakenly thinking it was a prop.

Oh my god, you will NOT believe this story! It’s from the documentary, and Ozzy – Ozzy! – said he genuinely thought this bat someone threw on stage was fake. Like, a rubber toy! He just instinctively picked it up and BIT DOWN. He actually bit into it! Can you imagine?! He said he just acted like the ‘clown’ he is, and then realized, oh no… it was REAL. It’s insane! I’ve watched that part like a million times and it STILL gets me!

Later that year, he married his manager, Sharon Arden.

Ozzy Osbourne, known for his role as the “Iron Man” singer and his signature dark eyeliner, was photographed with a cigarette before a show in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan. He and his wife, Sharon, later had their first child, Aimee Osbourne.

Oh my gosh, you will NOT believe this! I just found a picture of Ozzy and Vince Neil from Mötley Crüe backstage after a show on the Bark at the Moon tour! It’s AMAZING! And get this – it was around the same time Ozzy and Sharon were welcoming their precious daughter, Kelly Osbourne, into the world! Seriously, a perfect moment in rock history!

Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne, married since 1982, enjoyed a vacation in Brazil. They are also the parents of Jack Osbourne.

In August 1989, Ozzy’s band performed at the Moscow Music Peace Festival in Russia.

I have to say, seeing him pose like that just cemented his status as a true style icon for me! Those round sunglasses were perfect, and the outfit – a bold black and red look with a military vibe – was absolutely striking. It was like something straight out of a play, so dramatic and cool.

Black Sabbath cemented their legacy in Los Angeles by leaving their handprints in the concrete at the Rock Walk of Fame.

Black Sabbath showed their lasting connection by marking three decades together as a group. Ozzy Osbourne had returned to the band just a year before the celebration.

I remember back in ’99, I was at the unveiling of Ozzy Osbourne’s action figure! It was at the McFarlane Toy Showroom in New York City – a really fun event, and a cool way to see a rock legend immortalized as a collectible.

The Grammy-winner rocked his signature black leather style at the 2000 Grammy Awards.

For three years, from 2002 to 2005, Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne shared their personal lives with the public on their reality TV show, The Osbournes.

During his documentary, he spoke about his wife, saying she was the only person he’d ever been in love with and that she was his soulmate.

The famous rock star seemed thrilled to announce his ‘No More Tours II: Final World Tour’ at a recent press conference.

Ozzy reflected on his incredible 50-year career, recognizing just how much he’d accomplished.

In a 2018 interview with Rolling Stone, he admitted he was surprised by his success. Reflecting on his past, he wondered why he’d lived so long, considering his wilder days. He jokingly suggested that a higher power—if one exists—must have a reason for keeping him around.
