Netflix has announced it will remove several popular animated originals from its platform in 2026, including the controversial series She-Ra And The Princesses of Power. After five seasons, the show is expected to leave the streaming service next February. Creator ND Stevenson has spoken about the departure, noting that this is happening with other successful animated shows Netflix made with DreamWorks Animation.
I was really saddened to hear that She-Ra and the Princesses of Power is leaving Netflix, but honestly, we’ve been bracing for this for a while. It’s already happened to other DreamWorks shows when their licenses run out. It’s so frustrating knowing all the incredible work from so many talented people might not be easily available anymore, and there’s nothing the showrunners can do about it. I’m really hoping She-Ra finds a new home, maybe even a full DVD release, but it’s tough. It feels like queer art is often just… erased. So please, if you love the show, watch it while you can and try to preserve it in any way you can. The future of its legacy really rests with the fans now.
Eternia’s Bright Future
After the successful conclusion of She-Ra And The Princesses of Power, Noelle Stevenson created the Netflix film Nimona in 2023. Though a sequel hasn’t been announced, Nimona was highly praised by critics and won several awards for its original story. In 2024, it was even nominated for Best Animated Feature at the Academy Awards, but Studio Ghibli’s The Boy And The Heron ultimately won. More recently, Stevenson launched a new graphic novel series, Scarlet Morning, which came out earlier this year. It quickly became a bestseller, appearing on the New York Times and USA Today lists, suggesting it may be adapted into an animated series in the future.
Even though Netflix canceled She-Ra and the Princesses of Power, the story of Adora isn’t over. Amazon announced in 2024 that they’re creating a new live-action She-Ra TV series, led by Heidi Schreck, who has previously worked on shows like Nurse Jackie and Billions. But She-Ra isn’t the only property from the world of Greyskull that Amazon is investing in. A new live-action Masters of the Universe movie, starring Nicholas Galitzine, Jared Leto, Idris Elba, and Alison Brie, will be released in theaters on June 5th of next year. With She-Ra leaving Netflix, fans are now wondering what this means for the other animated shows the streaming service has made featuring He-Man and his friends.
