Sheridan Smith returns to the West End playing troubled woman with a fractured psyche – How to get tickets

Sheridan Smith is already starting a new job incredibly quickly – just days after finishing her most recent project for ITV.

This December, Smith will be back on stage in London’s West End, performing in a new production of Alan Ayckbourn’s thought-provoking play, ‘Woman in Mind,’ originally written in the 1980s.

The actress known for Gavin & Stacey will play Susan, a frustrated vicar’s wife who daydreams about a flawless life where everything – her family and work – falls perfectly into place.

The play unfolds entirely within Susan’s garden, growing increasingly unsettling as the line between her reality and imagination blurs, pushing her towards a breaking point. Originally performed in 1985, it hasn’t been staged in London’s West End since 1987.

This show will bring Smith back to the London stage after her previous play, Opening Night, unfortunately closed early in 2024 because ticket sales were low.

I’ve been a huge fan of her work for years, and it’s not just on TV! She’s an incredible stage actress too. I remember seeing her as Elle Woods in the original West End production of Legally Blonde – she was fantastic! And she’s consistently delivered amazing performances in shows like Little Shop of Horrors back in 2007, Funny Girl in 2016, and most recently, Shirley Valentine this year. She truly shines on stage.

Tickets are now available for “Woman in Mind,” a play coming to the Duke of York’s Theatre from December 2025 to March 2026.
