For quite some time, people have been eagerly anticipating the possibility of Sherlock Holmes gracing our TV screens once more, yet despite persistent whispers, a concrete confirmation about its potential return remains elusive.
Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat, the masterminds behind the show, have consistently expressed optimism about extending the tale of Sherlock and Watson, be it in a new series or film. However, recent developments seem to dampen those hopes.
At the Italian Global Series Festival, Gatiss hinted at the prospect of revisiting the show, admitting that returning can sometimes be quite challenging.
When asked about the lack of a new season, Gatiss explained that it hadn’t happened because Benedict and Martin chose not to participate anymore.

Last year brought some optimism for Sherlock enthusiasts, as producer Sue Vertue indicated to Deadline that the series had a promising future ahead.
In simpler terms, Vertue said, “We truly enjoy this series and it has potential for the future. However, only if we all agree to continue with it.
She added: “I believe I have the collection stored away, though it may not be in good condition now. The real challenge lies in bringing everyone on board and convincing the actors to participate.
When their schedules permit, it’s well-known that both Freeman and Cumberbatch have been quite occupied in the past few years.
It goes without saying that they’ve had packed schedules recently, and luckily for us, when they can, Freeman and Cumberbatch have found time to work together.
From a passionate movie buff’s perspective, it’s fascinating to note that I’m talking about two extraordinary characters – myself included in this group! One is Everett Ross, who has been part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, while another is Doctor Strange. Interestingly, both these roles are part of their impressive repertoires, with an array of other intriguing projects also under their belts.
More recently, Freeman appeared in “The Responder” on BBC One, a production that has garnered acclaim since its debut. On the other hand, Cumberbatch’s recent work is featured in Wes Anderson’s “The Phoenician Project.
