A well-known actor was arrested in New Orleans during the Mardi Gras festivities. Reports indicate he was involved in a dispute that led to his arrest and required medical attention from paramedics.
A fight broke out shortly after midnight on Tuesday outside a New Orleans bar in the French Quarter. The actor, known for his role in Transformers, was arrested as a result. He is due in court Tuesday afternoon.
A video was recently obtained showing Shia LaBeouf without a shirt and being treated by paramedics after a reported incident. The cause of the incident remains unknown.
Sources say bar staff asked the actor to leave before a reported incident. He briefly walked away but came back to the front of the bar, where paramedics treated him. While details about others involved weren’t released, the actor didn’t seem seriously injured in the video.
Shia LaBeouf is facing two misdemeanor battery charges, according to the New Orleans Police Department. He has publicly discussed his journey with sobriety. Sources at The Hollywood Reporter say LaBeouf arrived in New Orleans on Thursday to celebrate Mardi Gras.
This latest arrest is just the newest development in a series of legal troubles for the actor known for his role in the Transformers films. Born in Los Angeles, he has struggled with alcohol abuse and was previously arrested in New York City in June 2014. The incident occurred near Studio 54 and resulted in charges of disorderly conduct, harassment, and trespassing.
After the incident, he admitted to disturbing the peace, but more serious charges of trespassing and harassment were dismissed. He also chose to get help for his problem with alcohol.
In July 2017, the actor was arrested in Savannah, Georgia, for being drunk in public, causing a disturbance, and resisting arrest. He admitted guilt to disturbing the peace and was convicted of obstruction, but not public intoxication. As a result, he was sentenced to a year of probation and ordered to pay a $1,000 fine.
In June 2020, Shia LaBeouf was involved in an incident with another man, leading to charges of misdemeanor battery and petty theft. He initially denied the charges, and in May 2021, a judge allowed him to complete a diversion program instead of facing trial. After successfully finishing the program, the charges were dismissed.
