Looking to add a Shiny Koraidon or Shiny Miraidon to your Pokémon Scarlet and Violet Pokédex? Here’s a guide on how to get these special Pokémon, which you’ll meet near the beginning of the game. Considering repeatedly restarting your game to try and find their shiny forms?
Pokémon Scarlet and Violet mark the beginning of a new era for the Pokémon series. The games immediately introduce you to two powerful legendary Pokémon. But after dedicating years to repeatedly starting previous games for rare, colorful starter Pokémon, is it worth putting in the same effort to find shiny versions of these new legendary creatures?
What are Shiny Pokemon?
Shiny Pokémon are rare, differently colored versions of the Pokémon you normally find. In the games “Pokémon Scarlet and Violet,” they can be hard to notice. But it might be easier to find them while exploring the Paldea region on the Legendary Pokémon Koraidon or Miraidon.
How to Get Shiny Koraidon and Miraidon?
At the start of the game, the three starter Pokémon aren’t available as Shiny versions – you’ll need to breed them to get those rarer, differently colored forms. They’re initially ‘shiny locked,’ meaning repeatedly starting the game won’t change their appearance.
Sadly, Koraidon and Miraidon are also affected by this. In Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, you won’t be able to find shiny versions of these legendary Pokémon, as they are programmed to never appear as shiny.
Older Pokémon games let you encounter rare, differently colored versions of legendary Pokémon. But in the newest games, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, you can’t find shiny versions of the two main legendary Pokémon.

Will Shiny Koraidon and Miraidon Be Available in the DLC?
The upcoming DLC for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet has players wondering if they’ll finally have a chance to catch a shiny version of the legendary Pokemon Koraidon or Miraidon, potentially through content related to Area Zero.
The recent Pokémon Sword and Shield expansions included a helpful raid system that made it simpler to find and catch shiny versions of legendary Pokémon. We could see a similar feature in the new games, or the Pokémon might be distributed as a special gift later on.
