Shocking News: Pokemon Go’s Kubfu Can’t Join Your Pokemon Home Collection!

A while back, the game Pokemon Go became compatible with Pokemon Home, enabling players to complete their collections by transferring Pokemon from the mobile version to the app. However, certain Pokemon can’t be moved over to Pokemon Home, and these exceptions are primarily those sporting exclusive costumes found only in Pokemon Go. Soon, another exception will arise, as a unique Pokemon from Pokemon Go won’t be transferable to Pokemon Home. For now, it’s uncertain if this rule will change, but when Kubfu arrives in the upcoming season of Pokemon Go, players will need to retain it within the game.

Currently, Niantic, the creators of Pokemon Go, haven’t given a specific explanation as to why you can’t transfer Kubfu to Pokemon Home. However, it appears that Kubfu is essential for finishing a Special Research storyline during the Might and Mastery season within Pokemon Go. Since Niantic has also mentioned that Kubfu cannot be handed over to the professor, this would explain why it needs to stay in Pokemon Go. This way, players can avoid unintentionally hindering the completion of the Special Research by keeping Kubfu within the game.

Besides the complimentary Special Research narrative in Pokemon Go, they’re also introducing a distinct paid Special Research story titled “Fuzzy Fighter.” This Special Research offers players a chance to acquire an additional Kubfu, although it’s uncertain if this one can be transferred or if it will exclusively stay within Pokemon Go. The paid Special Research costs $8 and will become available for purchase starting March 5th at 10 a.m., which is also when the free Special Research becomes active.

Currently, if you wish to add a Kubfu to your National Dex in Pokemon Home, you can only obtain it via the Nintendo Switch games. Kubfu was initially presented in the expansion pass of Pokemon Sword and Shield, and later, players of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet were given an opportunity to get Kubfu through the DLC “The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero”. In both games, only a single Kubfu is provided, making it somewhat scarce. This may have left some Pokemon Home users who didn’t purchase the DLC for either game wanting to acquire Kubfu via Pokemon Go, but unfortunately, that option is not available at this time.

This new version of Pokemon Go places great emphasis on two key characters: Kubfu and its evolved form, Urshifu. Kubfu belongs to the Fighting-type category, but the type of Urshifu depends on which form it adopts; Single Strike Style Urshifu is both a Fighting and Dark-type Pokemon, while Rapid Strike Style Urshifu is a combination of Fighting and Water-type. In the season called Might and Mastery within Pokemon Go, players will be given the option to decide on their preferred style for Urshifu.
