Shonen Jump Cancels Major 2026 Series Before It Got to End Its Story

Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump has cancelled another popular series, making it their third major cancellation this year. Unlike the others, this series didn’t even have a chance to wrap up its storyline. With a new quarter beginning, Shonen Jump is preparing to launch three new manga in April. This means three currently running series will need to finish – either by reaching a natural conclusion or through cancellation.

Shuhei Tanizaki’s manga, Gonron Egg, began with a promising and original science-fiction fantasy world, but was unfortunately cancelled after 21 chapters. Unlike many cancelled manga that quickly wrap up their storylines, Gonron Egg ended on a cliffhanger, hinting at a larger conflict that will now remain unresolved.

Gonron Egg Cancelled in Shonen Jump After 5 Months

Readers of the Gonron Egg manga have long suspected the series was nearing its end, as the weekly release schedule seemed to be straining the creator. The story felt rushed with a significant time skip happening early on, and it appeared the final conflict was beginning. However, the very last chapter, number 21, reveals that this battle wasn’t the conclusion at all, but just the beginning of a larger war that the manga won’t cover.

Ohma briefly transformed into a powerful new form, but the moment was cut short when Gonron had to immediately focus on defeating the Drakarch general. The story then introduces the current Drakarch King, and both he and Gonron vow to continue fighting for their people’s survival. The ending leaves many questions unanswered – Gonron never gets to meet his sister, and several plot threads are left dangling. While some creators rush to finish their stories, this one seems to have built up anticipation for a continuation that will likely never come.

What Will Be Cancelled in Shonen Jump Next?

So far in 2026, Shonen Jump has concluded four series. Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo finished its planned story, but Otr of the Flame, Harukaze Mound, and recently, Gonron Egg, were all cancelled. We might see even more series end, and some long-running favorites could also be finishing up soon. In fact, both Sakamoto Days and Blue Box are nearing their conclusions, potentially wrapping up this month.

Several other new manga series started around the same time as Gonron Egg, but they aren’t gaining much popularity either. It’s likely that even more series will be cancelled before they reach chapter 30, so fans should watch out for potential cancellations.
