Shonen Jump Cancels One of Its Most Underrated Horror Series

It’s only the beginning of 2026, but Shonen Jump has already canceled several manga series. Last year brought a lot of disappointing endings, particularly for series that showed a lot of potential, like Kaedegami. Unfortunately, 2026 looks to be following the same trend, with more cancellations expected. Just last month, Weekly Shonen Jump magazine and the Shonen Jump+ digital platform ended eight series, seven of which were canceled outright. The only exception was One Piece in Love by Daiki Ihara, a comedic spin-off of Eiichiro Oda’s popular One Piece, which concluded after nearly eight years. And now, even early in February 2026, Shonen Jump is preparing to cancel another promising series.

Yuho Amayo’s manga, Darkest Corners of the Heart, will finish on February 15th, 2026. This is Amayo’s first time creating a serialized manga, and while it received positive feedback, it didn’t gain a large following. After releasing 21 chapters over the past two years, the story will conclude with its 22nd chapter. The information was shared by @WSJ_manga on X, a trusted source for Shonen Jump news. You can read all the available chapters on the official Manga Plus app, but there are currently no plans announced for translated book versions.

What Is Darkest Corners of the Heart About?

Kanade Suzaku is a horror manga artist who’s having a hard time getting his work noticed. All he really wants is for someone to enjoy the stories he creates, but even that feels like a distant dream. Because of his job, he spends a lot of time reading scary stories and traditional folklore. He’s also active in an online forum where horror writers of all levels connect and share ideas.

The authors started a collaborative storytelling game called “Ghost Story,” where each person added a single word to build a spooky tale. Chan, one of the authors, skillfully crafted a terrifying story that captivated the group. However, things took an unexpected turn when Chan announced their decision to stop working as a manga artist.

She’s struggling financially because her work is inconsistent, forcing her to work multiple part-time jobs and leaving her exhausted. Despite this, her friends Kanade and Seven encourage her to continue writing, but the group of aspiring manga artists faces many difficulties. The story follows these authors as they navigate their careers, sharing honest and often dark tales inspired by their own lives, making it hard to tell where the fiction ends and reality begins.
