Shonen Jump Cancels Promising Fantasy Series in Less Than a Year

2026 has begun with some bad news for manga fans, as several series from Shonen Jump have already been cancelled before the end of January. Last year, Shueisha’s digital platform, Shonen Jump+, ended dozens of series, many of which were available to readers worldwide. Launched in 2014, the platform publishes new Shonen manga as well as titles for other audiences. It’s become known for launching popular series like Dandadan, Kaiju No.8, and Spy x Family, thanks to its wide accessibility. However, if a series doesn’t perform well in terms of sales or online views, it’s often quickly cancelled to avoid financial losses for the publisher. While Shueisha rarely makes official cancellation announcements, it’s clear when a manga ends abruptly just months after starting.

This month has seen several manga series cancelled on Shonen Jump+. In addition to the previously announced end of Otr of the Flame, the platform has also concluded Ryota Killed His Brother, Re/Member: The Last Night, and G.G.G. The cancellations aren’t finished yet, however. The popular Shonen Jump news account @WSJ_manga recently announced that Ryuji Kunimoto’s Blood Wing Hunter will end on January 29th, 2026, with its 36th chapter. The action fantasy debuted in May 2025 and, despite having a small but loyal following, has been considered underrated. Fans have expressed sadness about the series’ upcoming conclusion on social media.

What Is Blood Wing Hunter About?

Hikari Akashi enjoyed a happy life with his family, especially his little sister Sana, who eagerly anticipated her birthday on June 16th. Sana loved rainy days and often went out to walk around town when it was pouring. This peaceful life was shattered when four angels attacked Tokyo, tragically killing 256 people, including Sana, and injuring over 1,300 others. Though the angels were quickly defeated, the devastating event had already occurred.

Five years after the first attack, sightings of these winged monsters became frequent, and they began brutally attacking people with their incredible strength. While most humans couldn’t defend themselves, a specialized team of hunters within the Black Umbrella Covenant, known as the Angel Hunting Association, regularly tracked down and fought these creatures.

Five years after a devastating event, Hikari quickly became a skilled Hunter. Though official reports didn’t detail everything, Hikari remembers the attack involved five angels, and one of them is still out there. Now, driven by a desire for revenge, he’s determined to uncover the truth about these creatures and the incident that shattered his life. You can read the entire manga story on Manga Plus.
