For years, American comic books and Japanese manga have been rivals. Recently, manga’s popularity has surged, especially with the growing success of anime, and it’s quickly gaining ground in the West. Marvel and DC are trying to keep up. One attempt to bridge the gap was a partnership between Marvel Comics and Shonen Jump, which led to manga featuring popular Marvel characters like Deadpool, Spider-Man, and the X-Men. However, this collaboration now seems to be facing some challenges.
I was surprised to learn that Shogakukan-Shueisha Productions is ending its publishing partnership with Marvel. They announced that the agreement will officially terminate on March 31st, 2026, and apologized for any trouble this might cause. The announcement itself was pretty straightforward. It’s still unclear exactly what this means for future projects, but it does make sense now why that one Marvel/Shonen Jump crossover is wrapping up soon.
The End of Deadpool: Samurai & Ultraman Crossovers?

The collaboration between Marvel and Shonen Jump produced several manga series, with Deadpool: Samurai being the most prominent. This series reimagined Deadpool in a manga style and featured exciting crossovers, including team-ups with All Might from My Hero Academia and adventures within the world of World’s End Harem. Beyond Deadpool: Samurai, this partnership also brought us stories like Spider-Man: Fake Red, Secret Reverse, Spider-Man: Octo-Girl, and Spider-Man: Kizuna.
Peter Parker recently joined forces with Ultraman in the ongoing comic series, Ultraman: Along Came a Spider-Man, which began in 2024. While the series didn’t initially announce a planned end date, the recent decision by Shogakukan-Shueisha Productions to end its partnership with Marvel suggests the crossover may not continue for much longer.
Following the news that their partnership was ending, Shogakukan-Shueisha encouraged fans to buy Marvel comics from them quickly. They announced on February 20th that a list of available comics was available and asked customers to purchase or order from their local bookstores as soon as possible, noting that supplies were limited and not all requests could be fulfilled. They thanked fans for their understanding.
