Weekly Shonen Jump is famous for launching many of the most popular anime series. Although the publisher, Shueisha, doesn’t actually make the anime, it provides a platform for creators to develop stories that become anime hits. Titles like One Piece, Dragon Ball, and Jujutsu Kaisen – among countless others – have all found success through Shonen Jump. Sadly, another popular series published in the magazine is coming to an end sooner than fans had hoped.
The manga Hero Girl And Demon Lord Call It Quits began in Weekly Shonen Jump last November with a funny and unique idea: a hero and her powerful, world-threatening rival decide to become roommates. The story, created by Hatsubina Matsuri, centers around a demon lord who wants to understand humanity and proposes a deal – if he can live with the hero, Asuka Kagurazaka, he’ll spare the world. While the series featured action-packed battles, it also became a charming slice-of-life comedy that will conclude this week with its 21st chapter. The author signaled the ending was near even in the chapter before the last one.
The Hero Girl/Demon Lord Dynamic

At the end of chapter 20, Asuka faced the event she’d been fearing. The story had long suggested that the Demon Lord could destroy the world when a red moon appeared. However, when Asuka approached him, the moon instantly returned to its normal color, revealing Asuka’s hidden power: being near her cancels out the Demon Lord’s magic. Now, with both Asuka and the Demon Lord acknowledging her importance, the manga is setting the stage for a return to the original situation in the final chapter.
The manga Hero Girl And Demon Lord Call It Quits has 21 chapters, which makes a multi-season anime adaptation seem unlikely. While a movie or short series is possible, even that isn’t guaranteed. Usually, a canceled manga doesn’t get an anime, although there’s one upcoming example that proves this isn’t always the case.
The manga series Super Psychic Policeman Chojo ran from 2024 until earlier this year, concluding with its 62nd chapter. Even though the story is complete, Arvo Animation is now working on an anime version.
