As a huge Shonen Jump fan, I’m a little worried about what’s happening over there! It looks like they might be ending two more series really soon, and it feels like things are winding down for those titles. It’s been a pretty big year of changes for the magazine already – we said goodbye to Mission: Yozakura Family and Undead Unluck earlier in the year, and then ten other series got cancelled as they try to find the next breakout hit. Unfortunately, it looks like even more cuts could be coming, which is always tough to see!
Shonen Jump is a very competitive magazine, and many new series are cancelled quickly – often before they even reach 20 chapters. Even after that initial period, a series is still at risk of cancellation for its entire first year. While any series can be cut at any time, fans are particularly concerned that Harukaze Mound and Otr of the Flame might end soon, despite having already surpassed the 20-chapter milestone.
What’s Going on With Harukaze Mound?

Despite being 23 chapters in, the manga Harukaze Mound by Togo Goto and Kento Matsuura might be cancelled. Sales in Japan aren’t strong, and the story seems to be rushing through events. For example, important baseball games that used to take several chapters to develop now feel hurried, and the latest chapter completely skipped over introducing a new player or technique, even during a crucial tournament debut. It felt like the match wasn’t given enough attention.
As a long-time fan, I’m getting really worried about this series. The creators actually had a previous manga cancelled in Shonen Jump, and I’m seeing a pattern emerge. When a series suddenly starts rushing its plot, like it has in recent chapters, it usually means the editors have given the creator the signal to finish up quickly. It feels like they’re being pushed towards a predetermined ending date. Honestly, it’s a shame because the story was so carefully crafted for a long time, but lately it feels a bit rushed and sloppy. With so many new series starting, I’m afraid this one might not even make it through 2026.
What’s Going on With Otr of the Flame?

Like many other series, Otr of the Flame is facing challenges. Its creator, Yuki Kawaguchi, had a previous manga cancelled by the same magazine, and this new series isn’t performing well in sales either. After around 30 chapters, it’s at a point where cancellation seems likely. Interestingly, the latest chapter gives Otr a significant transformation, quickly uniting him with the Flame Spirit – a development that might have taken much longer previously – and allows Otr to reflect on his growth.
Otr has experienced significant developments throughout the story, but this chapter feels like it’s summarizing events that should have unfolded over a longer, more gradual journey of growth. Right now, it feels like the story is rushing to a conclusion. It’s unclear if these two series are facing problems, so fans might want to pay close attention to see what happens next.
