The anime series Oblivion Battery, based on the popular manga by Eco Mikawa which started in 2018, premiered in April 2024. While the first season, produced by MAPPA, didn’t get as much attention as some shows, critics loved its compelling story. Fans have been eager for a second season since the first one ended last July, but it looks like they’ll have to wait a bit longer. At Jump Festa 2026, held December 20-21, 2025, Oblivion Battery was featured. Jump Festa is a major annual anime and manga convention hosted by Shueisha, Japan’s biggest manga publisher, where popular series like this share updates on what’s coming next.
Over 100,000 fans gather each year for this two-day event, which features exclusive announcements for anime, manga, and games, plus interactive displays and special merchandise you can’t find anywhere else. This year, it was confirmed that Season 2 of Oblivion Battery will return in 2027 – a longer wait than fans anticipated. The animation studio, MAPPA, is currently working on several big projects, including Season 3 of Jujutsu Kaisen, Season 2 of Chainsaw Man, and Season 2 of Dorohedoro, likely contributing to the delay. While a teaser visual has been released, fans are still waiting for a full trailer and a more specific release date.
What Is Oblivion Battery About?

The story follows a group of former baseball teammates who reconnect in high school. Haruka Kiyomine and Kei Kaname were a dominant pitcher-catcher combination in middle school, with Kaname’s smarts perfectly complementing Kiyomine’s powerful throws. They were a promising duo, but their success discouraged some players, including Taro Yamada. When Yamada starts at Kotesashi High School, he’s surprised to find that Haruka and Kei are also attending.
It’s incredibly surprising that Kei, after suffering memory loss, has become a crude jokester and no longer cares about baseball. He convinced Haruka to attend the same school as him simply because it was nearby. Taro, having already encountered his former baseball heroes, is disheartened to see them give up the sport. When the school starts a small baseball club, he dedicates himself to getting these skilled players back on the field.
You can stream the anime on Crunchyroll, Prime Video, and Apple TV. The manga is available to read on the official Manga Plus app, with 182 chapters released so far. While 22 volumes of the manga are currently out, an English version hasn’t been licensed yet. New chapters of Oblivion Battery are released every two weeks, and the next one is scheduled for January 7th, 2026.
