Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump launched a new series in February 2026, and after just one chapter, it’s already looking like a major success. The magazine has been introducing several new titles recently, which has unfortunately meant some others were cancelled before gaining a following. It’s a tough environment for creators, but this latest series seems poised to become a long-running hit for Shonen Jump.
The newest edition of Shonen Jump features the first chapter of Kinato’s Magic by Kento Amemiya. This release is particularly interesting because it’s Amemiya’s second attempt at a major series after a previous one was cancelled. Kinato’s Magic feels very different in style and ambition compared to his earlier work. It’s an action-packed fantasy adventure, and it seems to be exactly the kind of series Shonen Jump has been searching for.
Kinato’s Magic Debuts With Shonen Jump
Kento Amemiya previously tried to launch a serialized manga in Shonen Jump with Shadow Eliminators in 2023, but it was cancelled after less than 20 chapters. This suggested the story wasn’t resonating with readers. Many creators whose series are cancelled by Shonen Jump try again later, only to have their new manga cancelled as well. There’s hope that Kinato’s Magic will break this pattern, and its first chapter is a promising sign.
Kinato’s Magic follows Kinato, a mage who also works as a physical therapist in a quiet town. He uses a special healing technique called “Seitai Magic,” learned from his grandmother, to see and restore the natural energy flow in living things and objects. When Kinato is deceived by a group posing as adventurers—who are actually slave traders—he meets Jien, the leader of the Iron Fangs Adventurer’s Guild. Kinato’s magic helps free Jien, who then easily defeats the criminals.
Kinato’s Magic has all the hallmarks of a potential hit in Shonen Jump. The artwork is clean and expressive, the main character’s powers have a lot of room to grow, and a quirky, powerful mentor adds a fun dynamic. The series strikes a good balance – it doesn’t take itself too seriously, but it still establishes a sense of real danger, and most importantly, it’s genuinely enjoyable.
Does Kinato’s Magic Have a Chance With Shonen Jump?

Kinato’s Magic is a remarkably strong first chapter for a Shonen Jump series. While it didn’t launch with quite the same fanfare as Kagurabachi, or capture the unique visual style of Ichi the Witch (both of which look set to become major titles), it has the potential to become even more popular. It delivers exactly what fans expect from a Shonen Jump story, and offers a comforting sense of nostalgia that’s currently missing from other popular series.
I’m really excited about Kinato’s Magic, but I’m also a little worried about how it will be received. We’ve seen so many creators come back with new series only to have them cancelled quickly, and Kento Amemiya is facing that same challenge. It’s going to be tough because people will naturally compare it to everything else in Shonen Jump right now, and to Amemiya’s past work. The competition is fierce! Still, I think its action-packed style gives it a good shot at standing out, which is definitely a plus.
Honestly, I think Shonen Jump really needs a series like Kinato’s Magic right now. It’s not trying to be super intense or gloomy, which is a huge relief when there’s already so much of that going on. I’m really excited about how much room this series has to grow and get even more epic with each new chapter. I’m definitely going to be following it closely – I’m hoping it has a really long run!
