Shonen Jump Officially Cancels Another Major Jump Series for 2026

Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump has cancelled another one of its series, marking the second cancellation for the magazine this year. This series lasted only 30 chapters. As Shonen Jump starts the new year, it’s making changes to find its next popular title. This cancellation follows last week’s ending of Yuka Kawaguchi’s Otr of the Flame, and will allow another new series a chance to debut.

After rumors surfaced earlier this week, Shonen Jump has officially concluded Togo Goto and Kento Matsuura’s baseball series, Harukaze Mound. The series, which launched just over six months ago with 30 chapters, struggled to gain popularity with readers. The creators will now be focusing on new projects.

Shonen Jump Cancels Harukaze Mound After 30 Chapters

The manga Harukaze Mound by Togo Goto and Kento Matsuura has concluded with its 30th chapter. The story quickly finishes with Hinazakura High School winning their final game against Shuzan, and then jumps ahead in time to give readers a sense of closure. The series focused on twin brothers with dreams of competing at Koshien, a common goal in many sports manga published in Shonen Jump, and hinted at their eventual success.

The recent cancellation, which fans had anticipated as the story progressed, leads the series to show us the future through narration. We learn that Hinazakura and their energetic first-year team actually made it to Koshien. The story then jumps to the finals, where they finally face their rivals, Hosenka Jitsugyo High School, who were briefly introduced earlier on. Sadly, the series ends right as the championship game is about to begin.

What Does This Mean for Shonen Jump?

It’s disappointing to see Harukaze Mound end, especially since Shonen Jump doesn’t feature many sports series and could really benefit from one. Unfortunately, the series just didn’t gain much traction with readers, marking another setback for this creative team. Similar to the recent cancellation of Kawaguchi’s work, and their previously cancelled debut years ago, Togo and Matsuura had their earlier series, Phantom Seer, cut short after about 30 chapters. This was their second big project, and it sadly didn’t find an audience.

With two new series on the way this winter for Shonen Jump, one current series, Harukaze Mound, will be finishing up. Another series is also ending soon, and it’s currently unknown whether this is due to cancellation or the story reaching its conclusion.
