Shonen Jump Officially Cancels Yet Another Major Series in 2026 (& Fans Saw It Coming)

Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump has ended another one of its series, making it the fourth cancellation this year. Many fans predicted this would happen, as the magazine regularly makes room for new titles. The publisher announced plans to launch three new series in April, which meant three existing series would have to finish. However, not all series get a proper ending before being cancelled.

Following the conclusion of Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo and the recent cancellation of Gonron Egg, a new manga series has launched in Shonen Jump. To make space for upcoming titles, The Mage Next Door by Hideaki Nabe has been cancelled after just 21 chapters. While the series ended sooner than planned, it at least provides a satisfying conclusion.

Shonen Jump Cancels The Mage Next Door After 21 Chapters

Hideaki Nabe’s manga, The Mage Next Door, launched last November with the goal of bringing something fresh to Shonen Jump magazine. 2025 was a difficult year for the magazine, with ten series cancelled, so this new title seemed promising. The story introduces a mage who arrives on Earth, but with a twist: his magic isn’t about big battles or flashy spells. Instead, Toya Osoegawa uses his powers for everyday tasks like doing laundry and chores.

Unlike some canceled shows that rushed to finish their storylines, The Mage Next Door was already building towards a climax with Osoegawa confronting a powerful enemy from his past. He ultimately chose to use his strongest attack, giving up his other magical abilities in the process. Because the series wasn’t very popular in Japan and the story was naturally nearing its end, many fans anticipated the cancellation.

What’s Next for Shonen Jump in April 2026?

Shonen Jump announced three new manga series launching by April 2026, and the first is arriving soon after the end of Gonron Egg. With the debut of Atsushi Nakamura’s Roku’s House of Oddities, two more new series will follow in the coming weeks. The Mage Next Door will be ending to make space for “Natsu no Mushikago” by Satosho Masayoshi, and another series might also be cancelled in the near future.

Despite recent cancellations, there’s exciting news for fans! Hideaki Sorachi, the creator of Gintama, is returning to Shonen Jump with a new series called “2nd Year Class B Hero Destroyers” – his first work in seven years. It appears to be quite different from Gintama, and hopefully this new project will find more success.
