As 2025 comes to a close, Weekly Shonen Jump has announced a strong start to 2026 with both Kagurabachi and Ichi the Witch featured prominently in its first issue, scheduled for release on December 22nd, 2025. 2025 has been a challenging year for the magazine, with several series being canceled and fans questioning whether it would launch another big hit. Weekly Shonen Jump is famous for publishing iconic manga like Dragon Ball, One Piece, Naruto, and Bleach, but the current trend of shorter manga series means things change quickly, leading to frequent shifts in popular titles each year.
Although several new manga showed potential this year, none have become major successes like Kagurabachi and Ichi the Witch. Both series stand out and have captured readers’ attention. Shonen Jump clearly has high hopes for them, as they’re both featured on the cover of the magazine to start the new year. It’s rare for two series to share a Shonen Jump cover, particularly the first one of the year. This information comes from the reliable source @WSJ_manga on X. With both manga already popular on social media, fans are excited about the upcoming cover, which is expected to showcase the main characters.
Shonen Jump Has Every Reason to Bet on Kagurabachi and Ichi the Witch

Currently, two manga – Kagurabachi and Ichi the Witch – are generating a lot of buzz and are highly anticipated for potential anime adaptations. In fact, they’re even more popular than some long-running series in Weekly Jump. Kagurabachi, created by Takeru Hokazono and launched in September 2023, is a fantasy story that follows Chihiro Rokuhira as he seeks revenge for his father’s death and recovers the famous Enchanted Swords his father created. The manga already has over three million copies in print, and its popularity is growing rapidly.
I’m absolutely loving Ichi the Witch! It’s a fantastic magical fantasy series by Osamu Nishi and Shiro Usazaki that exploded in popularity just a year after Kagurabachi came out. The story follows Ichi, a solitary hunter who unexpectedly gains witch powers – which is a big deal because, in this world, only women are supposed to be able to use magic. It’s incredible that the series already has over a million copies in circulation, especially considering it’s only available in Japanese right now – hopefully, an English translation is coming soon!
The English version of the first volume of Ichi the Witch is scheduled to come out in February 2026, and this is expected to significantly increase sales. Given the series’ popularity, it’s likely that both Ichi the Witch and Kagurabachi will eventually be adapted into anime. Although an anime for Ichi the Witch isn’t happening just yet, there have been rumors about a Kagurabachi anime for about a year now.
