Few series reach the intense darkness of Kentaro Miura’s *Berserk*, especially within Weekly Shonen Jump. Recently, one manga has been compared to *Berserk*, offering a similar epic tale. While incredibly popular in Japan, this series, *Centuria*, hasn’t been available in print in North America – until now. Viz Media has just announced its release date for the United States.
Viz Media had a busy week announcing new manga releases, including titles like *Half Is More*, *I’m No Angel*, *Champion of The Rose*, and *Taika’s Reason*. Among these, *Centuria* stands out as a particularly dark and intense series. While fans will have to wait until next year, Viz revealed that the first volume of *Centuria* will be released in North America on February 17th, 2026. If you enjoy darker stories, especially those similar to *Berserk*, this series could be a great fit.

Centuria’s Reign
Earlier this year, it was announced that the manga *Centuria* would be released in America, but the exact date was unknown. Viz Media recently revealed more details about the Spring 2026 release, describing the story as follows: “Julian makes a deal to save a child, trading his own life to awaken an ancient god. Now with newfound powers, he must protect the innocent in a harsh world. *Centuria*, Vol. 1—a dark fantasy series by Tohru Kuramori—will be released in Spring 2026.”
Released in 2024, the manga series *Centuria* is still relatively new, so it’s understandable that an anime adaptation hasn’t been announced yet. However, given the series’ growing popularity, it’s likely we’ll see Julian and the world of Centuria adapted for the screen eventually. Many compare *Centuria* to *Berserk* not only because of its mature and dark themes, but also because its creator, Tohru Kuramori, has specifically cited Miura’s work as a key influence on their shonen manga.
Kuramori previously mentioned that the first chapter of *Centuria* was inspired by Joseph Mallord William Turner’s painting, ‘The Slave Ship.’ He envisioned his main character on that ship and developed the story from that starting point. This eventually led to the idea of a protagonist with a hundred lives. Kuramori also cited Kentaro Miura’s *Berserk*, the works of Tsutomu Nihei, and the Cthulhu mythos as major influences on his work.
