Since its initial release, Takeru Hokazono’s manga “Kagurabachi” from Weekly Shonen Jump has been rapidly gaining popularity and shows no signs of decreasing. First launched in September 2023, it quickly climbed the ranks as one of the top new Shonen series. Notably, this is Hokazono’s debut work, making his success even more remarkable. Like many mangaka, Hokazono chooses to keep his identity hidden, but that didn’t prevent him from attending public events. He made an appearance at Anime NYC 2025 while wearing a mask modeled after his official character design. This is an annual four-day event held in August at the Javits Center in New York City.
The international gathering, Anime NYC, attracts enthusiasts worldwide for its unique displays, exclusive showings, and meetings with influential Japanese creators and voice artists. It additionally offers an artist market, cosplay presentations, and chances to delve into manga, anime, and related content. Held from August 21st to 24th this year, the event also hosted the Kagurabachi panel alongside numerous other series. During this period, the creator of the series made a public appearance before a crowd of hundreds, participating in lively Q&A sessions and photo ops. Details about the event were disseminated by @brkagurabachi on X, a well-known fan account that frequently shares major updates regarding the series.

The interaction with enthusiastic fans ran smoothly, and the author showcased his enthusiasm when meeting everyone. He dished out some amusing tidbits about the series, his creative approach, and additional details. @brkagurabachi disseminated all these details to global fans via a collection of posts on X. Although Hokazono has previously published one-shots, Kagurabachi marks his debut serialized manga. It took him six months to sketch the first chapter. Releasing a manga weekly is demanding, and every mangaka adheres to a distinct timetable. Hokazono dedicates six days to plotting out the storyboard and only one day for drawing the actual chapter, which was a surprising revelation to fans.
During the event, Hokazono sketched Samura live while answering queries simultaneously. Additionally, he disclosed that Naruto and Jujutsu Kaisen were primary influences on his own series. The timeless popularity of Naruto transcends borders, boasting a vast fanbase worldwide, often credited for sparking numerous modern series. Conversely, Jujutsu Kaisen is a contemporary juggernaut that’s already captivating audiences globally. As Kagurabachi gains traction, an anime adaptation might not be far off.
Over the last few months, there’s been a lot of buzz about something major regarding the series. With two years having passed, it feels like the perfect moment for the series to unveil this big news. Currently, 91 chapters of the series can be found on Manga Plus and Shonen Jump’s official apps. So far, eight volumes have been published, with the ninth one scheduled for release from October 3rd, 2025. Out of these, only five volumes have been translated into English, all of which are accessible through Viz Media’s official website in both physical and digital formats.
