A popular new science fiction series in Shonen Jump recently finished its run, and the entire story is short enough to read over a weekend. Shueisha, the publisher, has been canceling several series this year – almost ten from Weekly Shonen Jump alone – in an effort to discover new hits. These changes aren’t limited to the magazine; the Shonen Jump+ app is also seeing many of its popular titles end this year as part of this overall shift.
Sadly, Shiro Moriya’s Astro Baby has come to an end. The series launched on Shonen Jump+ in February 2024, but experienced several delays during its run. Readers had anticipated a quick finish, and recent reports have confirmed it. However, with 43 chapters completed, the entire science fiction story is now available to read in one go – perfect for a weekend!
Astro Baby Ends In Shonen Jump With 43 Chapters

Chapter 43 marks the end of Shiro Moriya’s science-fiction series, Astro Baby, on Shonen Jump+. While some worried the series might be cancelled due to its relatively short length, it appears the story concluded as the creator intended. Unlike many series cancelled this year before finishing their arcs, Astro Baby’s 43 chapters deliver a complete story with a satisfying ending.
In the action-packed film Astro Baby, a meteor strike unleashes a strange illness that turns people into cannibals. The story follows Billy, a young soldier determined to return to his hometown – the epicenter of the outbreak – and find Eleanor, his childhood sweetheart. But things take a bizarre turn when he discovers the disease is caused by aliens, and ends up caring for Eleanor’s baby, who becomes possessed by alien powers. It’s a surprisingly enjoyable ride!
Why You Should Check Out Astro Baby Anyway

With only 43 chapters, Astro Baby delivers a fast-paced and unique story. It follows Billy and an alien who’ve unexpectedly teamed up – the alien is inhabiting a baby! – and must work together to stop an invasion and save the world. It’s a clever series that really makes the most of its unusual concept. The blend of sci-fi, horror, and humor makes it a quick, enjoyable read that you’ll likely finish in one sitting.
The series has a really striking and unique art style that fits the science fiction setting perfectly. You can see influences from classic Western animation in the character designs – little details like one character always having a slightly open, almost “Betty Boop” mouth. It’s very enjoyable, and now that the series is complete, it’s a fantastic way to spend a weekend – some viewers might even be able to finish it in a single day!
